I'm getting ready to take my '13 ody in for an oil change. I called the dealer to schedule service and they told me I'm due for the 30k service which is about $500 (gasp!) I then called another dealership and they said homda doesn't do scheduled maintenance intervals, the computer will indicate what you need. Anyone heard either of these from service? I'd love to not have to dish out the dough but don't want to scrimp or hurt my warranty. Thanks!
Most dealers follow Maintenance Minder codes for service and that is the recommendation from Honda, with some exceptions like exceeding the period interval between certain services, but not mileage (for ex. timing belt at 7 years or 105K miles whichever is earlier in which case the MM may not throw a TB code at 7 years if the mileage hasn't tripped it yet).
That said, most dealers that I have interacted with do not use MM codes for discussing service with the customer on the grounds that it is easier for a customer to relate to service requirements in terms of mileage intervals (5K, 15k, 30k service) rather than (A1, A2, B2, B4, etc.).
If a car is close to 30K miles (or multiples of 30K miles) on the ODO, or has enough interval elapsed since the last service to justify a service that would otherwise be typically performed at a 30K interval; then it wouldn't be unusual for a dealer to recommend a "30K" service!
30K typically translates to 2 to 3 years of service life for most owners, and this interval would then involves Brake, PS and transmission fluid replacements / replenishments in addition to the usual oil change, chassis lube, tire rotation, etc.
Given that yours is a 2013 model, it may be about 2 years since factory depending on when exactly it was manufactured and sold; and some, if not all, of the above stated typical 30K mile maintenance items are probably due now regardless of the mileage on the car.
Regardless, $500 is a bit high, should be about ~$350 or so...
Second dealer is correct.
As far as I know, the only thing that doesnt pop up on the MM is that you are supposed to do a brake flush at three years. That being said, I'm so jaded by the older Ody trannies that I'll probably do a trans drain and fill around 50K on my 2015 just for peace of mind.
