    Optional size for 225/60R16?

    I did a search on this but could not find a definitive answer.
    I have an 03 Ody with the 225/60R16 Symmetry's that need replacing soon. I know the issues with the other tires only having a 97T rating, which I'm not too concerned about. My question is has anyone put on a larger tire, say 235/60R16, on their Ody? I know the obvious difference is the speedometer reading, but are there any issues with noise or handling? Would I benefit?

    Optimal size for 03 Ody

    Sizzlemp, I don't have an answer for you as I am in the same boat, '03 Ody and ready for new tires. I checked with Honda and they did not recommend any tires not meeting the original specs, ie 225/60 R16 98T. I know from this board that there are some people who have put on 235s on an '03, maybe they'll get back to you on this. Me, I decided to stick with the original spec, so I'm leaning towards the Yokohama AVID TRZs.

    I just purchased and installed 4 Yokohama TRZ, same original size 225-60-16. Only drove 10 km since.

    They are a bit noisier than the original Michelin Symmetry, as the tire shop owner had indicated me.

    The Michelin Symmetry had 72000 km, worn down to 3/32 to 4/32. The van has 93000 km ( drove 2 winters with other winter tires).

    The special price of $95 CAD convinced me to go with these Yoko's.

    I did!

    I put on the Hydroedge on the '02 and went with a "plus 0" increase to the 235 60-16.

    I think the wider tire looks better and I feel better with more rubber on the road. I have been very satisfied with the Hydro's.

    Thumbs up

    Have had Kumho Ecsta's in 235/60-16 for almost a year now. Definitely more "footprint" and love them. Pretty good in the wet too.

    I was actually going to start a thread with a question about installing a different tire size, but i'll ask it here as this discussion is about same thing. My original question was can i go to a size smaller on the tires? I see that everyone reffering to original tire size as being 225/60/16 and i think thats wrong. the original size is 215/65/16, NOT 225/60! I got a free set of new Goodyear but the size is 215/60/16 not the original 65, so i was going to ask if its ok to go to a one size smaller in diameter?

    Actually for the 02-04 model years the original tire size from Honda is P225/60 R16 98T M+S.

    The 99-01 are P215/65 R16 96T M+S. They did not change the rim size from the 99-01's to the 02-04's. The P215/65 R16s and the P225/60 R16s can be interchanged... many 99-01 owners put the wider tires on and a few of the 02-04 onwers here have the P215s in snow tires.

    PashaM - You have the correct size tires. Those are spec from Honda. Here is a link to prove it. http://automobiles.honda.com/certifi...ModelYear=2003 Scroll down to the BODY-SUSPENSION-CHASSIS section.

    The 235/60-R16 should fit the stock rim (at least the Hydroedge does) and the difference in speedometer reading is less than 2%. I personally assume this overall change to be covered by the margin of error and well within the level of tolerance.

    The other numbers (averages):
    Sidewall: +0.3 inch (5.3 => 5.6)
    Radius: +0.3 inch (13.3 => 13.6)
    Diameter: +0.5 inch (26.6 => 27.1)
    Circumf.: +1.4 inch (83.7 => 85.1)
    Revs/mile: -13 (757 => 744)

    But the numbers do not tell you about significant improvements in handling. Depending on the selection and individual driving habits, the gas mileage might change.
