Best deals on de-pax conversion?

Hi everyone.

With the purchase of my Odyssey Touring I expected to hop in with my family and be in the road in the utmost luxury (that a mid grade family vehicle could offer)

Well as much of you have also noticed the nightmare of the touring edition, the Pax system.

I don't know what i hate worse, the lack of a spare tire or the 1200 dollar tire changes every 30000 miles.

So I am searching for the best depaxing deal I can find. I am looking for original honda rims, tpms sensors and lugs.

A friend purchased a depax kit there... the prices are very good, they offer free shipping and the parts are original Honda stuff (I made a point of double checking on my friends car)

Has anyone else found any better deals on the depax kits? I do not wish to convert to a different vehicles wheels like the rest of the threads i have seen.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I just bought a used 2005 Touring, and I'm just starting to find out about the horrors of the pax system. Didn't know this prior to buying the vehicle. I thought I'd done my research homework. I'll be looking to depax also.

Well since you just said you want a Honda oem parts, I would try mdx sports. But if you're lookin for a odyssey oem parts, then I would look for a set of 17 odyssey oem non pax wheels, but those will be a little hard to find. If I were to depax I'm going to get a set of bmw replica off of eBay just liek the other user did on this forum, which only costs around 1400 with tires and everything.

Check out College Hills Honda I believe their prices are lower and they are OEM also.

It seems like collegehillshonda.com and hondapartswarehouse.com are the only two sites that offer a real pax conversion kit for the odyssey.

However i have looked into both very thouroughly, called both customer service lines etc.

hondapartswarehouse.com seems to be the best to go, they offer free shipping, collegehillshonda.com does not. so after everything is said and done hondapartswarehouse seems to be significantly cheaper

Just incase anyone wanted an update, i ordered the pax conversion from www.hondapartswarehouse.com.

I ordered the 9 spoke rim kit, a tpms sensor kit and lug nut kit, it cost me $1198 all together (shipping was free and no tax) and it is currently in transit to my house, i will give you an update in a week when it gets here.

Best of luck with your depax! Don't forget you still have costs associated with purchasing tires and mounting and balancing to add to your $1198 cost.

I actually had this rim on my '08 Odyssey when we purchased it new. I upgraded from the 16" to 18" after a few months for my own variety or reasons.

There are a few people that have offered DePAX rim and tire sets (Mike Tran) or tire rims (famman), so you can look there (look in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum of the OdyClub). You can also buy new rims, though they are more expensive. Online, I found the 18" 2009/10 Acura TL AWD (SH) rims (new) for $216 to $220 each plus shipping (about $900+ total for all 4 if you pick them up at local at the Acura dealer)...others like the RL rims are more expensive.

This past week, I purchased a set of 2010 Acura TL AWD (SH) "take off" 18" rims (look new and have less than 10 miles on them) with Honda TPMS sensors for less than $750 from my local Acura dealer. Just called the parts dept. and asked if they had any 2009 or 2010 Acura TL 18" take off rims. Other rim models (17" or 18") are available to fit the Ody too (RL, MDX, Honda Ridgeline, etc. but vary by model year and rim size). Just depends on what you like.

Getting the proper tires are extra of course, but I'm going with Mike Tran's suggestion (which matched my local tire dealer's suggestion too) for the Hankook Ventus AS RH07 235/55/18 Extra Load (104) 65,000 mile rated tire. I had to buy new lug nuts for the TL rims, but got them from Mike Tran in a speedy transaction (thanks Mike - got them today). Some rims will take the current Ody Touring lug nuts, but others don't.

Don't forget to investigate the purchase of a spare tire.

I'll post pictures next week after I get my tires this weekend.

the honda parts warehouse depax kit comes with a spare tire, mount and anchor bolt, and i believe i have an old set of snow tires from my last odyssey that should fit, atleast for the winter

I bought a set of new car take off 09 Acura TL 17 inch rims with TPMS for $200 from an Acura dealer in my area. Just calling around for take off rims are the cheapest way you can do this IMHO.

I have 09 Touring and still have good amount of life left with my PAX tires. But I just want to prepare depaxing in advance so I can have enough time to find a good deal on rims and parts.
I now have 17 inch rims but if I can find a good deal on 18 inch, then I will sell my 17 inch TL rims to upgrade to 18 inch. So I think it is good to start this earliest as possible.

Congrats on your near DEPAX! You're almost there. You have chosen a great set! The 235/55/18 Hankook Ventus is a great tire. I currently am running this set on my 18" MDX Sports! Post pics once your setup. Tim (famman)

In your dealings with this subject, have you found any info on weather or not the original touring TPMS sensors will fit any of the 05-07 OEM alloy wheels? I know some OEM 5 spoke rims have the mag style lugs like my 06 has, but will the sensors work in those rims?

The original TPMS will fit, but I bought new sensors. From what I've heard, the batteries in them only last about 5+ years, so I figured I'd spend the money and get new ones. You can order them online to get the best price.

A spare will cost you just over $200 (mounted and with mounting hardware).

I'm glad I depaxed...nicer ride. The Hankooks I have are good tires, though they are a little louder than the original pax tire....not that bad though and they are a 60k mile tire.

Well I was able to find a set of 2007 MDX take-offs (base) loaded with Mich. Latitudes (255-55) that are a tad larger than recommended but fit fine. No rubbing.
All told it was:
$600 ($658 w/tax) Wheels
$202 TPMS (4)
$20 Lugs (ebay)
$100 swap TPMS and swap tires off of Ody.

So it was about $1000 (adding for travel gas cost) I am happy to say and it only took three days and several trips to various dealers and tire shop.

The members here were extremely helpful and a big thank you goes out to Mike and Tim for their advice.
