    EasyCare TotalCare & EnviroGuard Warranty

I just purchased 2012 EX-L left over for $30,325 (w remote starter and wheel locks) interest rate of 1.53.
Paper signing happened at closing and I opted for all warranty options the finance guy suggested.

Now, I am worried I might have been taken.

    EasyCare: TotalCare warranty level. 7yrs. $100/deductible. = $1,600
    EnviroGuard: = $399

Any and all discussion and feedback appreciated

I don't recognize the EasyCare. Is that an aftermarket mechanical warranty? IMO if you are going to buy an extended warranty you should only buy the manufacturers warranty. If this is not a HondaCare warranty, I would cancel and get my money back, then buy a HondaCare warranty if you want extended coverage. If you just laid down for the F&I guy there is a pretty good chance you can buy a real HondaCare warranty for less money. Check the best prices thread here Best Honda Care Extended Warranty Prices.

I am guessing the EnviroGuard is an undercoating or rustproofing product. Those are a ripoff IMO, but you are SOL on getting your money back as they will have already applied the product and will not refund your money after that. If you had to schedule an appointment to get it done and have yet to take the car back you may be able to cancel. Remember, this is just one opinion.

EasyCare is an aftermarket mechanical warranty. The dealership states that they use it in lieu of HondaCare because it covers more and is priced better (it includes flat tire replacement and rental car). A google search produced other inquiries, like mine, but from high end makers (Porshe, Lexus, BMW). Im not sure if thats a good sign or not that high end dealerships are choosing this warranty coverage.

The EnviroGuard is an interior and exterior aplication. It covers everything from tree sap, bug guts and bird poop, to interior permantent stains and small tears, and stitching loosening. This coverage lasts 7yrs. A google search didnt produce much. Bbb doesnt rate the company because its been around 3yrs. I have not had it applied yet.

Together, both coverages are $2k. Is it worth it?

Regarding the EnviroGuard NG, I should also mention that I often use my van transporting cargo (large kids toys, climbers, power wheels, bikes, and most recently heavy-duty metal shelving, etc.).
When on camping trips, a few family members have been known to sleep in the back on chillier nights. And, I've got a child with a vomiting disorder (although, we have only had vomiting in our old van on one occasion).

It treats and warranties the car inside and outside. The warranty information refers back to the descresion of the inspector whether repair or replacement. There are no periodic re-applications or charges. I'm solely responsible to checking my vechicle over routinely. Additional options include, Renewal of warranty is available throughout the lifetime of the vehicle and is transferable--both have additional costs at the time.

I'm skeptical because I've read all kinds of "general" things about these application products lasting only 6mo or so, but I'm more focused on the warranty part should a need arise and given our uses that may in fact be more likely, than not.

We do plan to keep this van the long haul... like they say, Until Death Shall We Part (the van's 1st I hope ... lol )

I spent 8 years in the car business, so maybe I can translate this for you. "The dealership states that they use it in lieu of HondaCare because it covers more and is priced better (it includes flat tire replacement and rental car)" means the dealership makes more profit selling it to you than if they sell you HondaCare. In that thread I gave you the link for one person reported buying a 8yr/120kmile/$0 deductible HondaCare for $1270. You don't say how many miles the EasyCare warranty is for. Also, with HondaCare it doesn't matter what dealer you are at there will be no hassle for the billing. If you end up needing repair in the middle of a trip with a different dealer they may or may not be willing to bill the warranty company direct and the warranty company may or may not agree that the repair cost was reasonable. You would not believe how ugly that can get and ultimately you will be responsible for the bill and will be stuck if the two can't agree. Do what you want, but a word of warning.

As for the exterior/interior protection, read the fine print of the warranty. Getting these companies to pay out if you have irreversible damage to paint, fabric, or carpet is nearly impossible. Again, a word of warning. Between the customers that never need to make a claim and the fact that they deny a high percentage of claims the money they collect is nearly all profit. $5 worth of paint shield product and $5 worth of scotchguard and $30 to pay the clean up guy to apply the stuff, then they sell it for $400+, but hey, it's your money and your van. My '06 has 160K on it and still looks like new other than the self inflicted scuffs, door dings, etc. even though it has the light gray interior. I have rubber mats over top of the factory carpeted mats and throw and old sheet over the cargo area if I am hauling something dirty. I also give the carpet a good cleaning twice a year. Putting the protection package on it does not negate the need for good care. All of this is JMO of course.
