    Front strut job, KYB

So did rears on saturday was easy.
Today did front left side, pain in the azz. First thing you need is a spring compressor that you can buy and than return from Auto Zone. If you have a friend who can help ask him. Takes about 2 hours. Wheel off, end link top side off, brake hose off, other looks like hose off.
Than y2 big bolt need 32 mm ranch.

Continue due to iPad using. You want to remove rain wipers and take off the long plastic cover on the bottom of windshield, this way will be easier to get to the strut bolts on top. Do the bottom 32mm nuts first than top one and will come off easy. Next thing spring compressor on tide as much as you can, make sure the compressor seats tide you dont the spring in your face . Ones the compressor on untide the top nut and remove the plate, keep the compressor on until you put the new strut and tide the top plate

If I recall correctly, the lower strut fasteners can take a 22mm socket/wrench, not 32mm.

are you also changing sway bar connecting rods ?
did mine at the same time.
no need to disconnect brake hose, just undo the bracket.

No I'm not, not even sure what it looks like, i was thinking about end links since they have to be disconnected but just don't have money. I paid 160$ for the whole set from eBay with local pick up, i know i got lucky

If memory serves me, they attach the sway bar to the strut and often break. I did not replace mine but they were replaced by Honda a few years earlier when my tranny went 10 toes up. I was able to put vicegrips on the back side to get the nuts off. I did wire brush and add penetrant to the threads first.

    Hello to all,

I'm planning self-service on my suspension soon, long overdue at this point (>190,000 miles, 2000 EX-NAV). I have decided to use aftermarket parts instead of paying the Honda parts premium, and KYB seems to be a probable choice. Any recommendations for evaluating the utility/necessity of using new coil springs along with the shocks? I have the service manual which lists the vehicle height, but is there a more detailed way to evaluate whether the van is actually "sagging"' due to wear in the springs? I'm planning to get at least a couple more years out of the van and don't really want to short-change myself or a (?) future owner for a couple hundred dollars difference in cost, but I don't feel like throwing money where it's really not needed, either. I understand the logistics of re-using the springs vs. simply swapping assembled systems.

I'd also like suggestions for replacement springs if I decide that is needed. I'm not opposed to lowering springs like the H&R coils at Tire Rack: Suspension Products for 2000 Honda Odyssey, but lowering is not necessarily my intent. If lowering springs are used, is the additional hardware shown at Tire Rack essential to restoring camber and alignment? Whether I go with lowering coils or OEM spec, what aftermarket brands/part numbers would be best, or "most equal" to the OEM? Any parts choices to specifically avoid?

    Regards,
    Dean

    Another (related) question:
Any problem using WD-40 on the hardware for a few days before the job? I know there may be better things, but it's what I have around...

Kroil or PB blaster is the best bet.
