    Looking for Switched Power Wire

    Hi,

My wife drives a 1999 Odyssey with a lead foot. I would like to hard wire a radar detector into her car, but I cannot locate a 12v supply switched with the ignition insice the car. There are a million wires under there, and I have found a 12v always live source, but no switched source. I just need one switched wire I can tap into.

    Thanks.

The power outlet (like a cigarette lighter) is switched.

Thanks; I understand that, but I want a wire I can tap into, under the dash, so the install does not involve wires going from across the dash. If I can find a switched wire under the dash, I can just bring the cord up through the A-pillar, across the top of the windshield under the trim, and plug it into the detector mounted on the center of the windshield.

Switched wire - Black with yellow tracer

Located in the ignition switch harness bundle. Just used it today for a car alarm install.

I tapped into a black/yellow wire in a bundle under there, essentially at the end of the steering column, and found it to be an unswitched .96 volts. Is the ignition harness located elsewhere?

I think egads meant for you to tap into the wire feeding the accessory outlet, not use it from the front!

There are several bundles under there, but the same color wire should do the same thing regardless of the bundle. I will double check later today and see if I can get a picture for you.

This is the link I used to find all the wires.

Use a Little-fuse "add-a-circuit" kit in the fuse box at floor level on the passenger side behind the access panel. Run the wire up the A pillar and tuck it under the headliner at the top of the windshield. Do a search -- there are a zillion posts on this.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I am looking to hardwire a Valentine 1 off of the wiring bundle in the passenger footwell. The add a fuse suggestion is good but doesn't fit in the passenger footwell fuse box.
If anyone has a link to the wiring diagram for the passenger footwell, that would also be really appreciated.

Install your add-a-circuit in the fuse box under the hood and run the wire thru the hole beside an existing wire bundle or find the plugged hole for the fog light wires and use that. This amazon link shows the under hood install.

The front accessory outlet is switched power and should be easy to tap into
