Did the Seafoam/egr procedure this summer on our 03 and there was no smoke. I would have noticed, did it in the garage. Took a while (several weeks) for the CEL light to fully give up and go away.

    Thank you guys at Odyclub.

The SeaFoam Sales Rep I am touch with mentioned the reason of no smoke is engine might be clean. In any case I have noticed mileage performance increased by changing spark plugs, doing sea foam, fuel injection cleaning and tire pressure at 40psi.

Hey guys, bringing this thread back from the dead. Can someone post a pic of where the egr is, and where the brake booster line is? I'd like to do this cleaning to see what happens.

Knowing brake booster should be mandatory for anybody opening the hood :-) Just look on the firewall on the driver side. The big black round thing connected to the brake fluid reservoir. There would a vacuum hose, about 3/4 inch diameter going all the way towards the intake manifold.

Here is a Link with pictures to Seafoam using the vacuum on the throttle body, I used this on my Acura and it worked like a charm.

    For EGR valve

    Locate your oil filler cap
Standing in front of it, 3 inches on right, 3 inches in the back
    That is your EGR valve!

Ah, so the thing with the silver can that has an electrical connector? The bolts on it are pretty rusty. I'm guessing I would need a gasket if I take it off, right? Can I just spray some cleaner in there? What should I expect to see?

You will definitely need the EGR gasket if you take off there. I have not done it on my van (currently at 180K) miles. I believe you would see lot of carbon in that hole going towards the intake. If you are getting EGR related codes (P0401 or something like that) then it is worthwhile to remove and clean the valve and the passage. I think there are couple of videos on youtube.

I just watched the video in the other thread, that's exactly what I was looking for to do the EGR port. As for the valve, I'm sure that's going to be just as easy. I did the sea foam thing today and I guess the engine is clean because I didn't get the big smoke show, but it did stabilize my idle. Now I just need to tackle the iacv clean, EGR port and valve clean and we should be good to go for a few more years.

I currently have the 50mph shudder that is caused by the EGR valve. Is it best to replace the EGR valve or is possible to just clean it?

Since EGR valve is controlled by the ECM, it will only open when vehicle is in drive. If you have over 70,000 miles on your spark plugs maybe it's time for a new set. Unburned hydrocarbons caused by poor spark can gum up alot in the EGR circuit and intake. Anyone ever clean the Idle Air Control Valve in the throttle body? Also regularly changing the air filter will help with intake/EGR issues. Also be careful with Seafoam, it can cause post combustion ignition and overheat and melt the catalytic converter, O2 sensors.
