TCS and Check Engine light on at the same time!

I been having this problem for a while now and I figure I post it here to see if I get some help from somebody that had the same problem b4.
I know those 2 lights on mean that something is wrong with the transmission, but my 'D' light never blinked and my transmission is running as always since I have the van like a year and a half ago. I didn't notice any change in the way the transmission acts not even from P to R or R to D. Is very smooth.

Also, is there any way to pull the error codes of that, I have a regular OBD-II reader.

    Thanks

    PS. Its a 2002 EX. 148k

Pull the code with your reader and search on that code here for more info...

It is a good chance it is not the transmission.

    Hi,
I pulled the codes today and I just got P0401, no codes about the transmission. Its weird.
I'm gonna remove the plenum and clean the EGR conduct and see if the TCS light wont come on again.
    I'll post the results.

Again------ TCS light comes on with most CEL codes to disable the TCS as a safety measure. IT IS NOT a TCS failure. There are many codes that can be set and turn on the CEL light. As you found out when the CEL light comes on you have to pull the code to determine where the failure is.

    Hi,
    Just a follow up.
I followed the instructions in this thread EGR TSB a second time to get rid of the P0401 code and now is working fine, no more Check engine light nor TCS.

William Wiles you were right, TCS light was triggered by P0401

    Thanks!

My 2004 Odyssey had TCS and CEL on about 1 week ago. The code is P0365, camshaft position sensor. It was running fine until this morning. On my way to office, the car shuddered when I pushed the gas a little harder on a uphill slope. It looks like the tranny was slipping at 2nd or 3rd gear. I am afraid the tranny is out as I read some similar threads on this forum regarding the TCS and CEL on problem. Any ideas?

I think the P0365 CMP Sensor B No Signal code was an intermittent code if you cleared and didn't come back.

As for the shudderring - when was the last drain and fill of Honda ATF and also read up on the EGR valve problems.

The last time for drain and refill with Honda ATF was about 2 years ago with 43K miles. It is 72K miles now. What the shuddering problem has something to do with EGR valve?

I think you refer to this TSB 04-029 regarding EGR valve. But the tsb says it applies to 99 ~ 03 Ody and mine is 04. Do you think dealer will honor the TSB for my 04?

I suggest a drain and fill of Honda ATF fluid and see if that helps the shuddering as you are overdue on this maintenance. A rule of thumb around here is a drain and fill of ATF every 3rd oil change at least.

Your symptoms describe a failing EGR valve. If you try to maintain a constant speed on the highway without cruise control, do you feel hesitation and/or stuttering in the throttle? I don't think the dealer will do anything for free even it is a TSB at this stage and you are right, the 2004 was not included but still could suffer the same issue.

You have no CEL on and no code stored at present, right?

I will do the drain and fill ATF fluid this weekend. I have not driven for over 5 minutes on highway. The only time I am on highway is about 2 minutes and I don't feel the shuddering. The shuddering only happens around 30mph and the gas is pushed harder enough to trigger it. The CEL and TCS are still on and I plan to have my own mechanic clear them. If the dealer won't do anything to EGR for free, I will let my own mechanic do it. My guess is I ERG valve needs to be replaced and clean up the EGR port, correct?

After more observations, I find that the shuddering always happens around 30mph and 3k RPM. When it happens, the RMP meter just jumps up and down and I feel there is no power.
