My 2008 Odyssey EX-L gets between 14 and 15 MPG in town. The problem here is that Fayetteville is very hilly and I have about a 250 foot climb to where our home is. It can get as much as 26 MPG on the highway once we get away from the hills.

Bad relative to the hwy mileage, but you are correct in that it isn't bad at all overall. I am happy with the overall avg mpg considering the Ody's utility/safety

Thats about what we get with our 2010 touring. Has anybody performed any maintenance like changing the spark plugs or added an after market air filter or even altered the exhaust at all just curious? I am willing to do anything to get the mileage up.

On the 2010 we normally get about 250 miles before a fill up.

On the 2001 we normally get about 350 miles before a fill up.

Both of these vans have the same size gas tank and we do the exact same type of driving on both vans. We asked the person at the dealer and they didn't think anything was wrong.

Somebody asked me if the ECO light turns on on the 2010, and yes it does.

Without having checked the specs of the 2001 and 2010 models, I would wager the 2010 is heavier due to the additional content (heavier trans, operating sliding door windows, VCM, etc.) Probably does not explain such a large difference in fuel consumption, but maybe some.

Another important variable is the tires. Is your 2010 running eco tires that are properly inflated, or even inflated above Honda spec?

Do you still have your 2001? Fuel today isn't what it was in the past since ethanol was added (lower energy).

    Just some food for thought.

My 09 Touring with 41k usually gets 15-17 in town. We just took a trip from SoCal to Prescott, Arizona and managed 23.5 on the way there and 25.91 on the return trip. This was with two people and a Chihuahua going between 70-80mph.

I had a 2001 ex (sold just short of 200,000 miles) and now have a 2010 touring (38,000 miles) and my experience on road trips driving similarly (ohio to Florida at least 2x a year) nets just over 22+ mpg (speeds of 70 to 80 mph). Currently in Florida and weekend drive down just netted 22+ mpg again.

    My belief...

    - 2001 ex with 4spd tranny (16 city / 23 hwy / 18 combined)
    - 2010 touring is heavier with more horsepower and is offset by vcm / 5spd tranny (17 city / 25 hwy / 20 combined)

...initially thought the 2010 would do better with advancements / technology but reality has been like mpg between the two - wishful for more but without regrets
