front wheel bearing question ??

I"ve been reading all the info etc...and have a question i have the common wheel bearing noise, but when i jack up the vehicle there is no play at all in the wheels, i'm curious if they can make noise without having play yet ?? I have noise up until 65 and then 65 to 80 mph i have a shimmy in the wheel i rotated tires and it got different but never left, so i'm sure its a wheel bearing, THanks

Go to youtube and listen to some video of bad bearing.

If you decide to replace the bearing, then make sure the magnetic encoder is on the inner side during install.

Also check your tires carefully. How old are they? A couple of my tires had some irregularities as I was approaching 4 years / 50k miles on the tires, probably from pot-holes or whatever, and it resulted in a similar experience. The past couple rotations I had to keep one particular tire on the back because it was so bad. A new set of tires and it went away entirely.
