    Ethanol. Okay or not recommended?

Some stations in my area of the midwest are selling ethanol at quite a reduced price from regular unleaded. I won't use it unless I know it's okay to use in my '05 Odyssey LX. I see nothing about ethanol in my owner's manual. Thoughts?

Reading that other thread, it doesn't sound as if owners who have tried it are happy about having tried it. Thanks for the heads up.

All Hondas can run on 10% ethanol, Up here in the midwest thats the standard gas. It works OK, but it does affect performance and fuel economy mode slightly.

    Ethanol and fuel economy

    For your reading pleasure:

    http://www.ethanol.org/documents/ACE...onomyStudy.pdf

It appears if you have E10AK (denatured entanol) you will increase gas mileage. Other formulations may decrease gas mileage, but it seems to depend on the vehicle. My guess is that you were looking at straight E10 though, as I have not seen E10AK anywhere.

If it is a lot cheaper I say go for it. We use E10 out here in California all the time and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems for anyone I know. Ethanol will actual clean varnish out of your fuel system.

Ethanol attracts moisture, but you aren't going to get any moisture in todays closed fuel systems. If you have any type of air leak, your CEL will go on when the system does its normal pressure check. So you can rest easy that you won't get any moisture in your fuel system.

Just make sure it's not E85 (meaning 85% ethanol). You would need a dual-fuel engine to run that (like the new Tahoes).

I'll second that. The ethanol being sold in the midwest at a cheaper price is E85 which is not compatible with the Ody. Gas with 10% ethanol is ok and that is the standard gas mixture at all of the stations I frequent.

So how come Honda and Toyota do not offer E85 vehicles?

Could this be one of the "tweaks" for '07MY?

I used a tank of E10 last weekend in NY and my gas mileage was less but
    ran good.

I wonder how difficult it would be (in the future) to modify the ODY to run on E85. Anyone?
There might come a time in my Odys life that e85 will be much cheaper than Gasoline.
