Question dash light burned out...help needed

05 ody, I have bunch of dash night lights that are burned out (according to dealership), and for them to replace total of 10 bulbs, it would cost around 350-375.

I said no way I will be paying that much, and I will probably replace the bulbs on my own.

These are the list of lights that were burned out.

    1)switch that controls interior lights
    2) Transmission shifter lights shows P/R/N/D/2/1
    3)Haz light
    4)AC control panel (Auto/off/Sync/Driver Temp)
    5)Fan up/down and AC, mode
    6) passenger side heated seat control (not pictured)

This is what I am asking to you.
    a) Do you think these are hard to replace? I am pretty handy, so I think I can pull this off, but would like to get your opinions before starting the job
    b) if it is doable, any type of tips doing the job will be very helpful

I've seen pictures of how to take the console off (clips) from the Audio unit related, so I think that would be a good starting point.

    Thanks for any inputs.

Sorry, I don't have an 05 model to help you with this. But I am curious about how many miles are on your van. I would think it unacceptable for that many to be out. I wonder if there is not some wiring problem. If anything, I'd start with just A/C panel and make sure new lamps really fix it.
For one thing, there are some posts related to installing audio around here that could walk you through taking the center apart. An on line parts seller would be the place to look up replacement lamp numbers. Someplace like:

    http://www.bernardiparts.com/

The 99-04 vans have terrible dash lamp issues. You would think Honda would have addressed that. I also don't remember too much talk about this from member here on the 05+.

These seem to be all in the panel that the AC controls are attached to... this is relatively easy to pull off. All you need is a medium flat blade screwdriver. Open the top glove box and you will see a small slot on the edge of the bezel. Put some masking tape of other tape to cover the front of the bezel just in case the screwdriver slips. Put the tip of the screwdriver into the slot and pry up (out), once there is enough room for your fingers to get in start pulling the bezel off. It will be tough, but it does come off, there 7 to 10 clips to pop off. The tranmission shifter needs to be out of Park to get the cover off the shifter, so block the wheels and have your keys ready.

You should be able to get to the lights now...

It is strange that all these lights go out at one time..

Maybe there is a bad fuse in the fuse box. From the pic I can see that only some are out, but maybe the fuse only controls some of the lights.

I agree too that it sounds like a fuse.

If you had a 1999-2004 Odyssey, I would have suggested to check fuse #10 (15A) in the Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box.

It is just the light bulbs that are not working and not the components, right?

Not a fuse, just randomly blown light bulbs. Dealer checked the fuse and I did as well.

It is 05 ody...in case you missed my original message.

Judging by that picture you attached, I'd say you got a bad batch of bulbs. Honda doesn't make their own bulbs, they get them from a supplier. So you could actually buy replacement bulbs online and maybe get longer lasting ones. Once the unit is out, the bulbs are really easy to replace. Basicly the bulbs are held in by a small twist base. The bulb and base are one unit. Takes about 2 minutes to replace the burnt bulbs once you remove the unit from the dash.

I may have missed this, but should these bulbs not be covered by the 3 year warranty?

Yeah right. Honda's policy is 1 year on the bulbs, but 3 years if the component fails. Such a cop out by Honda imo.

Try taking it to the dealer and telling them that the bulbs are out and intermittantly the heater control panel goes blank. See if they will replace the whole unit under warranty, assuming yours is still valid. Play up the internal electricals being faulty.

    Good luck

achung73, how did you finally resolve the burned out lights? Our 05 did the same thing (even the exact outages) recently.

I am going to point to you to the right area.
DIY Replacing Climate control and Hazard lights

Very simple, takes at most 1 hour, once you have all the supplies ready (which I bought the bulbs from local radio shack).

You should get plenty of tutorials as well as other stuffs you can do.
