Back here as we try to decide on 2nd minivan to replace 2003 Odyssey

We have a 2003 Odyssey, fully replaced one transmission; rebuild of it.....so we're actually wondering if we want another Odyssey (which is sad as we and my husband's family are big Honda family, but transmissions aren't cheap). I read the forum years ago when I first got the van. Now I'm back to see what folks are saying about the newer models.

The Ody's transmission has come a long way since 2003. In 2007 it was replaced with the stronger transmission from the Ridgeline. It's no longer the subject of debating reliability.

Honda's ATF is now fully synthetic.

In 2011+ the Touring and Touring Elite got a 6-speed transmission standard. This is probably to encourage buyers to buy those more expensive models since this is a very desirable feature.

The 07-10 Ody transmission were less problematic than 99-04 model. 11-13 5speed LX,EX,EXL is same as 07-10 so in theory they have same reliability. 11-13 Touring and Touring Elite have 6 speed transmission; initially have hiccups to sort out but I have not seen any complaints from owners lately so it must have been resolved by software update.

I have 160K on my '06 with a grand total of $275 spent on non-maintenance repairs and we work it pretty hard towing a camper at max towing weight including a trip to Yellowstone and the west coast from Ohio. The newer models transmission is far more reliable. I don't know if our next car will be a van, but if it is it will be an Ody.

Thank you all! I was starting to come to that conclusion as I read a variety of posts on the forum. We were struggling with even the idea of test driving a Chrysler....and so many don't like the Toyota. Thanks!! We're off to test drive the new Odyssey this weekend!

Well, one of our members will tell you to try out the Nissan Quest....but I wouldn't be afraid of another Honda.
