    Aternator DIY for 2011+ available?

Hi everyone, relatively new here. My wife has a 2011 with ~50K miles on it and the alternator seems to have gone out. I want to take it out and have it checked at Autozone I was wondering if there is a DIY for the 2011+ Odyssey's on here? I've looked at some for the older versions and there are differences.

Specifically, there is no tensioner between the crankshaft pulley and he a/c compressor on my engine. When trying to remove the serpentine belt, do I wrench one the pulley itself to loosen the belt tension?

Also wondering if I need to loosen the radiator and a/c radiator to allow enough room to remove the alternator from the top?

    Thanks for the help!

Got your email, just sent you the instructions.

It's a 1.2 hour job for a tech, so it's not too involved.

Agree why pull the alternator while you can do most all of the diagnostics on the vehicle.

    I agree with your agreement.

I don't know how it can be, but in my experience of taking alternators in for bench testing at PepBoys (et al), the results are wrong more often than they are right. And one time, I believe the test actually damaged the alternator.

Given all that, I of course no longer take them in. I just test them on the car and then rebuild them myself if necessary. Saves a lot of research and wondering about quality, etc.

Also, 50k miles seems a little early for an alternator to fail due to wear. Was there any possibility of an electrical anomaly that burned something out? My 2011's alternator is going strong at 80+k, and my 1999's was going well at 210+k before I rebuilt it pre-emptively (new bearings, old ones seemed fine; new brushes, old ones had about 10% life left).

Just finished the alternator replacement job. Pretty difficult; Honda definitely did not make it easy.

I highly recommend watching this video prior to starting the job. Disconnecting the radiator (without removing it) is key.

(This is for a 2010 Ody, but it is very similar)

Removing the four AC compressor bolts is also a pain (but necessary).
