Transmission Hesitation / Shudder on 2012 Odyssey EX-L

But that's for the 6-speed.

We are experiencing the same issues on our 5-speed EX-L, with 7000kms on it.

When speeding up, there is a hesitation between 1st and 2nd gear and 3rd and 4th. Slight, but it's there. You get the slight feeling of falling forward for a half a second.

Also, if you accelerate to, say, 50 km/h, then let your foot off the gas, there is a shudder, and slight deceleration.

This is the 3rd Odyssey we've had the pleasure of driving, all ECO mode equipped, and the other 2 were smooth as silk (2005, 2008).

I've taken it to 2 dealers here, both took it for a test drive, and both said it's normal.

The other thread mentions a mysterious software update that made it go away in the 6-speed. Is there anything forthcoming for the 5-speed?

i would notice VCM sometimes, but i am driving too slow to care (with baby on board) .. LOL

hi, i just purchased 2012 ex model. While driving back home , it was okay on highway. Once I got into local driveway, I experienced exactly same problem. Then, it disappeared. The car only has 30 miles now. What should I do? When it was idle, it generated trasmission noise and then it disappeared.
Can anyone suggested me what to do??

I've noticed it in our 2012 EX-L, but it's pretty subtle.

I suspect it's the torque converter lock-up. I see in the forum the 05-10 models had similar problems. This is something that can often times be addressed through software, as it involves the timing of when things happen.

Have a significant shudder issue with my '12 EXL-NAV with only 2,000 miles on it. Has been in twice and last time they said there was a software update and I prayed that was the fix but the shudder is still there. It seemed to disappear for a couple of days but it is back and worse when cruising at about 48-52 MPH and at 70 MPH. I guess there needs to be another software fix? This sucks and i is making me hate my car.

Supposedly Honda did upload a software fix for me right before Christmas on my EXL-NAV and it seemed to work for a day or two but the shudder is back with a vengeance. In English units, it's worst for me now between 48-52 MPH and at 70 MPH but alos at other shift points as well.

Happening now on my '12 ex with 6000km was smooth as silk before. Any info on Canadian fix?

I think mine too. It around the 50mph and 70mph, mostly noticable when coasting. I don't think it is related to the ECO mode, more maybe the transmission. I read somewhere else, to turn O/D off and it should dissapear, then it's the torque converter, is that right?

I want to make sure what it is, before going to the dealer, we all know they brush us off quick and say it's normal or try everything.

Both my old '11 EXL (traded with 6800 miles) and my new '12 EXL (2000 miles) have 2 identical transmission issues............1 is a very frequent shudder at highway speeds when lightly on the throttle. Not sure if it is torque converter or cylinder management vibration through a bad engine mount, etc, but it drives me crazy. 2nd issue is a random (every couple hundred miles) "panic shift" that occurs when accelerating and is between 2-3 or 3-4 gears.....it will SLAM into gear.

Keep 'em coming folks, we LOVE the van other than this, Honda dealer never figured out the problem with our '11, so we traded it in (on an AWD Sienna that had horrible seats, and ended up trading that in on the '12 Oddy).....and now we still have the problem with our '12

My dealer always asks me to go on a test drive with a mechanic when I drop off the car to make sure they know what I am talking about. Why don't you ask them to do the same?

Perhaps his dealer did feel it, and told him what mine did, which was "yes, they all do that"...... Which we KNOW isn't accurate. Not ALL the Odysseys do it, but it's an easy way out for a dealer who doesn't want to dig into the issue to find the root cause.
