That seems to be how mine is working, that the latch is not feather light in operation that it requires real effort to open and close it. It is annoying when you carry your kids in your arms, but then if it is too light, it may get open and closed too easily.

I have the same mis-aligned sliding door issue with mine. About an 1" gag as well. Right now, the minivan is at the dealer so hopefully it's a quick and easy fix without resorting to Honda HQ.

To think about it, your kinda right about this. It does have a little too much resistance. My petite 7 year old daughter struggles to "pull" this handle. But opens it after 4 to 5 tries. I just tried it on the other gens and they seem lighter to open.

I really doesn't bother me too much but its something to be aware of.

For folks with similar door issue, can you check what is the build date on your vehicle. This info is on the label in the driver side door jamb. Mine is May 2012, build. I purchased in Sept. So looks like it was on the dealers lot for a good 4 months. I'm just trying to zero in on whether its a particular batch that has this problem, or in general most of 2012 vehicles.

On a different, I have only about 600K on the van, but experience the 'shudder' issue intermittently. The recently issued TSB, does not cover my vehicles VIN. Hence wondering if dealer will apply the TSB. I guess I may have to post this on the thread dedicated to the transmission issues.

Mine has the exact build date as yours, May 2012! A bad batch?

    Hi,
Just found this discussion using Google. My 2012 Odyssey has the exact same issue. Looking at the picture posted, i have the sam alignment problem... I have been to the dealer twice and they say that i should live with it and that it is a minor trim issue. They were willing to change the rear trim piece that covers the sliding door track, however, i asked if they would be able to color match and they were not very positive that it would be exact same color. They suggested i just leave it ...

After reading this post, i called the dealer and mentioned the solution provided to 2012OdyOwner. He said that he wasnt aware of a latch adjustment but they will look at it. Im hoping they can fix it as it really bothers me to see a door not aligned properly like that... everytime i check my side mirror, i can tell my door is not fully closed. Dealer seems unsympathetic to this... anyway, i'll post again once they attempt to fix it. I was not expecting this from a $40k CDN van...

    thx, ALex.

2012OdyOwner: if possible, can you tell me what dealer fixed your door? i'd like to provide this to my dealership so they can ask what they did for the repair. my dealership still seems clueless even though i mentioned it was a latch adjustment. Either name of dealership or phone number would be great. thx in advance...

Autopark Honda | Cary New & Used Honda Dealer serving Sanford, Raleigh & Durham North Carolina
in North Carolina fixed my door. Mind you, the door is much tighter now, and 'snaps' open when unlocked. This is not the normal behavior as the other door is very smooth. But yes, its does fit flush now and is more appealing to the eyes than before. I'll also suggest you call the Honda customer service number and give them feedback regarding the door. They may issue a generic TSB if they hear from enough Odyssey owners.

Interesting! We have a 2012 Odyssey as well and the Pasenger side sliding door looks pushed in on the top side (the other one is aligned perfectly). When I took the car for the first servicing at David McDavid, Frisco, TX, the Service advisor told me that nothing can be done at their location but didn't not provide any alternatives. This weekend I asked for the bodyshop adjustor and got the number for their body shop person at the dealership (wasn't available on SAT). Wonder about the Honda QC department as well. One would think that after spending $40K on a vehicle it would appear well put together at the least and the dealership who promises the world in servicing when you make the purchase (if you went to the New Owner's Clinic) stand up to legitimate concerns. I am thinking of writing a letter to Honda to check up on their Quality.

    @ STH :

I would encourage you to write to Honda. I had opened a case via phone when the dealer initially did nothing about the door alignment issue. All that phone call did was put pressure on the dealer to take a look at my vehicle. The problem was never fixed to my satisfaction. The other day while washing the car I noticed the paint blob/zits issue. There are threads on this forums regarding this. Paint has also chipped off in a couple of areas on the hood. Need to show all this to the dealer now. I also noticed that even though the upper part of the left sliding door was aligned, as a result the lower edge is now actually pulled in creating a misalignment there. Basically, I'm very disappointed at the QC of Honda. Have to make so many trips to the dealer in spite of paying an arm and a leg for a Touring Model. And they are not able to fix the issue. Totally frustrated at this point.

Honda seems to still have QC problems. I was at my Honda dealer in Austin TX yesterday and noticed a new 2013 Touring model on the lot with the top front corner of one of the sliding doors actually touching, metal to metal, up against the vehicle body. I also noticed many sliding doors were aligned many different ways, very inconsistent.

    Hi,

I searched the forum and found this thread. I have the same issue with my Ody 2013 a few weeks ago. I noticed the sliding door on the left (driver side) is not flush with the body, similar to the OP's.

    1. What's the warranty period on the sliding door alignment? I didn't buy extended warranty.
    2. If it is still cover under warranty, can I take it to any dealers? I bought mine kinda far away therefore i was hoping that i can take it to a dealer near me.
    3. Please see attachment. My wife told me that I am too picky. Am I? :-)

I suggest you call into Honda customer service and open a case. I did that. They then assign a dealer and get you in touch with the manager there. The dealer should be able to take care of this. The problem is the dealer may just adjust you door locking to pull the door more flush. But this does not help. The lower part of the door now goes further into the body and the locking mechanism being so tight puts resistance on the door opening. Check my previous posts. I had same problem but they never fixed it. I may open another case with Honda and request the dealers body works dept to properly align the door.

You can also take it into the nearest dealer. They might be able to fix it upfront, if they have seen this issue in the past. I remember seeing a post here where the experience with the dealer was very pleasant the and user was satisfied with the alignment. Do post on how it goes.
