    Power liftgate question

Liftgate opens and closes with key fob. However, now that its cold on the way up the process isn't smooth. It seems to go stop so stop go all the way up (seems to hesitate on way up). Almost like the struts need oil. Is this normal behavior for cold weather operation? It also is like this even in garage.

    Thanks.

The coldest I've used the pwr gate function is about -20F (-30C) and it was smooth.

No problems with the liftgate here in Ontario, where our weather can be similar to Chicago's.

I would take to to the dealer and have it looked at. Could be a faulty part.

I noticed a bit of stutter on mine as well last weekend. Subscribed.

If your car is 6 month or older and has never been lubed, it is not a bad idea to put white lithium grease on the metal hinges. For the strut, use a tiny bit of wax, don't use grease, which can attract dirt. This should make it smooth and quiet going up or down. If not, you may have a problem.

Yeah, at sub-50F mine opens all herky-jerky. Will have it looked at but am willing to bet the dealer will return with "can no duplicate" or "normal op" or something. Guess I should get it on video.

Car was bought around thanksgiving and has about 1500 miles on it now. If I raise and lower the liftgate multiple times in a row it seems to be better. I will have it looked at next time I'm close to dealer. Thinking it might just be a weather issue.

    Edit:
there is some stick stuff around the part where the strut extends. Is that normal or from when they were detailing for delivery?

My understanding is that the strut should be free of grease, or anything, so it can move freely and the internal parts do not get damaged. A good wipe followed by a very small amt of car wax can make it work much better without adding any sticky stuff there that may hinder its movement.
