Checking for the rivets per the TSB wasn't difficult. The hardest part was removing the cover at the bottom of the steering wheel. Was relieved to find all six rivets. The TSB does a good job in showing the difference between the bolt head and the rivet head.

Dealer checked ours, very quick and painless. They have done about 60 so far with no failures. Supposedly Honda expects 1% to fail the inspection. Wonder how 1% made it through production with this failure.

I was about to bash the assembly folks in Alabama, but from the recall notice and the TSB inspection instructions, it looks like the airbag part itself is missing the 6 rivets. If your vehicle's airbag doesn't have the rivets, the entire airbag part is replaced. So, it's not like the Honda assembly workers forgot to install the rivets, the airbag they were given to install onto the steering wheel was missing the rivets to begin with (unless Honda also assembled the airbag part as part of vehicle assembly, which I doubt).

I guess quality control "up the line" (when the parts arrived at the plant) is to blame for this one?

Let me change my comment to, Lets not let "humans" build cars. Some might argue about Japan making recalls as well. Like the toyota stuck gas pedal and such.
Sorry, that's incorrect. Even the cars here are built to the same quality levels as the other cars. There are issues from time to time even with the Lexus and Infiniti that are built in Japan. Just because your's has an issue doesn't mean they all have an issue. As posted in another thread... I've had more issues with the Infiniti and Lexus that were built in Japan vs my Honda and Acura that were built here.. go figure?

If it's a recall doesn't matter if your warranty ran out. They have to repair it for free.

Just checked, all 6 rivets seem to be there

Now Honda owes me 5 bucks for the Kobalt inspection mirror, the other mirrors I have were too big and thick (yeah, I know you are thinking)

Lets make humans only build cars for the job aspect of car building. Mistakes happen, we are all test rats anyway?
