For those who has done exterior LED lighting....

    Hi all,
I have a 2012 Odyssey Touring, was browsing/ researching through the forum. Now I plan to do exterior LED upgrade. There are couple things I would like to ask for those who has done it:

    1. Are the bulb sizes: Back up- 7440, Tail light- 7443, R. Turn- 7440, F. Turn- 3157?
    2. Anyone has done the turn signal, do you need load resistor to avoid error code or flickering? If so are there room to put in the fron/ rear housing?
    3. I found there is "T20" for the back up light, what is the difference between T20 and 7440?

Any LED upgrade with pictures would be really appreciated.
    Thank you!

Oh right~!, another JT here.....Welcome JT....

    1. Here is the outside parts: Back-up/7440, Brake/7443, Tail-Parking/T10, Rear Turn/7440, Front Turn/7443

    2. Yes, you're load resistors since I can't find any LED Flasher Relay for the Odyssey/Honda's that fit. They made for Toyota's
but no love for newer Honda's. **IF someone found a PNP LED Flasher Relay that fits, plz feel free to post.
re: mounting? There some free-space upper here, and the Front......

    and this is Front Driver-side....

    3. 7440, 7443, 3156 and 3157 are similar family design. T20 is base name, but there two type of T20's
One is Single (two contact points ->7440) and One is Dual (four contact points -> 7443)

    ex: of 7443 harness

    Comparison........

NOTE: Not all T20's will FIT into the Odyssey (I tried, the head is bigger than the housing hole), And when buying T20 bulbs, look closely to
seller page product pictures, that's only way to tell Single or Double T20's.

I've been meaning to post this in DIY on the Clock Light thread since June 2010 when I did this, but Nomorenow- you've inspired me to post!

If you're handy with a soldering iron, here's something you could try- modify your existing relay. I have many small potentiometers (variable resistors) in my parts bin that I could wire in series to any resister in the relay. The size or resistance value (maybe 50k or larger) is not critical, and whether it's regular or audio taper doesn't matter much for this project. Physical size is important, small is what you want.
(Disclaimer- I'm not an electronics engineer, I just know enough to be dangerous!) 100K ohms is what I had handy.

When I opened my flasher relay, I found 2 resistors inside, so I added a pot to each. I de-soldered the long lead of each resistor. A small insulated jumper wire was soldered to the circuit board in place of the resistor lead.
Each pot has 3 leads. The middle lead is to the wiper arm which I soldered to the resistor lead. I trimmed the length of the jumper wire and soldered it to one of the two remaining leads on the pot. I turned each pot to 0 ohms.

I reinstalled my relay, turned on the hazard flasher and started adjusting the pots with my screwdriver. It was quickly evident that one pot controlled the flash rate, and I adjusted it down to a reasonable level. I couldn't tell what the second pot did, so I reset it to zero. I then put the key in and checked each turn signal. Here you can see that I have it adjusted to about 30K ohms. (Not my final value, since I re-adjusted the rate a bit after final assembly and showing off to colleagues at work!)

I could have removed the 2nd pot and re-soldered the resistor back, but I left it in place since my parts were free and I'm basicaly lazy! I did apply silicon rubber caulk to insulate all bare leads, and folded the un-used pot out of the way. Also, I could have drilled a hole in the relay cover to allow access for adjustment, but I decided to leave the cover off.

    Hi Nomorenow,
Thank you for the detail explanation. I assumed that you have done the LED upgrade. How do you like the result?
I think the 2011+ Odyssey tailight looks.."dim" or "old" probably due to the reflector... So trying to make it more "update" or "brighter". Not sure if its worth the hassle or money to upgrade to LED?

My 2¢ worth, outside turn signal/brake lights: medium hassle, it's personal preference imo.
Interior upgrade to LED- a difference between dusk and day (literally)! The OEM bulbs were very dim. Now I've got a nice bright interior. Replacing the various festoon bulbs is easy and straight forward.
You can review Nomorenow's 27 page post where he details his upgrades and the bulbs used.

That's very cool on 1st Gen Odyssey LED setup you did!
The newer Odyssey uses alot smaller relay (when I saw them) Smaller, makes even harder for me to solder. I'm not that good micro electronics (afraid, LOL) There be gotta be a better way, or just no love for Odyssey owners with aftermarket parts.

To me: switching interior to LED is a 1st new odyssey owner should do, the orig bulbs is a joke, you can't see anything.
Vanity mirror LED is optional, since is very bright in your face. Wife hates it, just FYI lol....

I did convert all of my interior and exterior lights to LED's and let me tell you interior you can't go wrong but exterior - totally different story....
I tried many different leds for my backup, stops and turn signals- i was never satisfied until i installed V3 TRITON from VLEDS.com
This are the only LED bulbs i found that you can compare to stock (i think they slightly brighter).
Expensive - 100 bucks for pair but well worth the money (the only leds on the market that have lifetime warranty).
