I recently changed the oil for my 2014 ody with what I though was the only honda oil available: 0W-20 Blended. I found out there's actually a full synthetic 0W-20 from Honda as well. I checked the owner's manual, it does not specify which type of oil is preferred: blended or full synthetic. Should I change the oil earlier next time given that I didn't use 100% synthetic but rather blended? Or is there no huge difference between the two types. Is the full synthetic the recommended oil for 2014 Ody? Thanks in advance.
You will be fine with what you have in it now. The maintenance minder is designed with regular oil in its program, so you can change it somewhere before the oil life gets very low and go to the synthetic for the next change, which will be good for the full interval. Yes, you will have to pay the difference for the synthetic, unless you have a very charitable dealer.

Before the Oil Nazis come in, it does not matter. Any major brand (that you heard of) 0-20 will do. Don't over think it. It's just engine oil. You been driving and taking care of your car for XX years now. 2014 Ody is not any different.
All maintenance decisions need to be made with your overall goal in mind. If you tend to trade as soon as or before it is paid off and 100k miles or less that is a world of difference than planning to drive it for 10+ years/300k miles. There is no one size fits all answer.
I used to stick with regular Mobil 5W-20 (from Walmart: 5QT for $14) on my old 05'Ody. But for my new 14'Ody, Honda switched to 0W-20 (for fuel economy) and Mobil doesn't make regular non-synthetic version for that. I was having trouble to find 0W-20 (non-synthetic) in my neighborhood. Finally, I gave up and use Mobil 1 0W-20 (from Walmart: 5QT for $25).
I worked at a service station for 6 years while I was in college - generally speaking, oil is oil (as long as it's a regular name brand), however if you plan to drive it til the wheels fall off, you'll probably want to go full synthetic from the beginning.
Just bought a 15 EX-L, dealership gave me a card for $18.95 full synthetic oil changes for life, which I plan on taking advantage of.
I do oil analysis on most of my cars. I can tell you one thing for sure, DON'T keep a non-synthetic in your engine longer than 5k miles. Even some of the so called "full synthetics" break down in 5k interval let alone Honda's crappy "synthetic blend". Do a search and you'll find lots of threads on the subject.
This is regarding post #10 above which read: "Just bought a 15 EX-L, dealership gave me a card for $18.95 full synthetic oil changes for life, which I plan on taking advantage of"
My question is: How can they offer that price for full synthetic when its costs about 50 dollars (or more) for the oil itself and 10 dollars for the oil filter?
The dealer service department buys oil in bulk, so their cost for the oil and filter is probably around that $19 range. Don't confuse what you pay for Honda oil at the dealer parts department for their cost.
