They could certainly do it and borrow from Ford's "One Ford" strategy. It just won't be the currently available international model.

Those international versions are fun and efficient alright, but in North America as a whole we still prefer larger vans. Sales of the Mazda 5 have almost disappeared in the US. Minivan Sales In America - August 2016 YTD - GOOD CAR BAD CAR

Plus all the spy shots of the re-designed Odyssey show it as a much bigger vehicle than the international version.

That's just depressing on so many different levels.
    • Wonder what the problem is that they've had to delay it?
    • If there's not some problem and this was always the plan, why wait so long to release the 2017?
    • I would rather they completely skipped a 2017 model and released the new 2018 one super early. Actually releasing a 2017 just makes the update that much later at this point.
    • It feels like they've conceded the 2017 model year to the Pacifica. The Toyota doesn't look like it got a stellar update either. But, it's kind of sad to be staying even because the competition didn't improve instead of actually improving on it's own.

Not that anyone will know those answers.

There are still many people like myself that would rather buy a 2017 Odyssey than a 2017 Pacifica - I dont care what features the Chrysler has, its still a Chrysler!

So if they do this and don't add honda sense they won't get the iihs top safety pick +.....they would only get top safety pick....which is great....but the pacifica gets the top safety pick + so that might mean something to people. Of course the Sienna isn't even a top pick because of the marginal small overlap front crash score. Just wish they would at least announce the new model. Now I'm skeptical that it will even be announced in Detroit???

Well the Odyssey is stuck in 2016 mode on the official Honda website. Might it skip the 2017 model year all together? Or have a super short 2017 model run? Doubt it. They are probably going from 16 to 18!

Yeah I'm not sure what benefit they would get from even releasing a 17 model unless it's the new one. Nothing says they have to release a 17 if it wouldn't be the new one. In fact it probably makes sense if they aren't going to release until Spring to just call it an 18 model. To most people that denotes the newest and best and probably won't be any 18 models of anything else out for months.

No that doesn't make sense, they can't just jump years like that. They will update it soon, same thing happened when I was getting my 2017 accord, dealers had 5 2017 accords while the website was still showing 2016 models. Btw, they already started production of the 2017 odysseys.

I agree with this - 2017 carryover will hit lots in mid-January and may run for 4-6 months until the re-designed '18 will be ready.

The real question is - our lease is up in late Feb 2017. Am I better off making a deal for a leftover 2016 model or just wait until the lease ends and possibly pay more for a 2017 model even though it will be the same vehicle? It is not worth extending my lease to wait for the 2018 IMO.

So is the thought that the 17 will be exactly like the 16 with absolutely no changes?

Yes. IF they do, then it will be minor changes/improvements. (infotainment system is one example)

Why did they wait so long to switch to the 17's if there were no changes?

From what I heard, Honda was originally going to release the re-designed Odyssey before the new re-designed CR-V, but that was changed after they repositioned manufacturing capabilities for the Ridgeline and Pilot. This delay on the 2017/2018 models is a result of that changed CR-V/Odyssey model release.
