Unfortunately, they kept VCM according to:

    The 2018 Honda Odyssey will be powered by a 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC™ V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™).

"Powering the family hauler will be a more powerful version of the 3.5-liter, direct-injected V6 engine with cylinder deactivation. For 2018, power increases by 32 to 280 horsepower, and will work with a nine-speed automatic transmission, or a new 10-speed unit on higher grade models."

I wonder why they are going with two different trannies? I'm guessing the touring and elite will probably be the ones to get the 10spd.

They did that on the 2011 models and then on the refresh did away with the 2 different trannys - I bet you'll see all 10 speeds at the refresh in 2020 or 2021.

Sounds like the 10 speed is built in house and the 9 speed isnt - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_9HP_transmission

They said they will have black seat belts and carpet, so maybe a black interior or a very dark grey. Since I will wait till at least a 2020 model, it'll be nice to see what develops with the two trannies, it won't be till at least 2021 till the mid generation refresh, although since they are extending the generation age maybe even 2022 till refresh. I'm determined to get 200,000 on my 07 which is in wonderful shape.

You’re right! And what’s with that grey arch-shaped fascia at the roofline? Wonder what that’s about.

I’m not exactly bowled over by the redesign, I think I was expecting a swoopier, racier shape, and a panorama roof would have been wonderful too. I also have mild misgivings about the new ten-speed transmission, transmissions being an achilles heel Hondas share with earlier Chrysler minivans.

Still, I’m already looking at ways of getting into the new Odyssey. Not right away, but maybe in a year or two from now, once all the new model bugs, especially the ones having to do with the transmission, are all worked out.

It has some sort of internal hinge/strut support system, I wonder if this is the high end model and struts may be on the EXL and lower. The good and bad thing about struts is they loose pressure and need to be replaced but it's a 5 minute job, if internal a strut replacement could be VERY expensive.

Very happy with the stuff included. Likely will get a 2018 this year once the initial demand wears off.

Did they get rid of the amber rerouted turn signals? Fail.

    Not seeing it as "right"

Still looks weird IMO. Why the need for a lightning bolt at all, and the big down-squeeze shape in the rear window?

Plus all the swoopy Hyundai-Sonata crease lines swooping down in the back make it look like it is tail heavy and wearing a loaded diaper

Guess I am stuck with my 2010 for that much longer. Glad I've been maintaining it. Unfortunately means I'm gonna have to do the timing belt on it here in the next year or two.
