    Maint Req'd light

My maint req'd light is blinking when I start my car. I think I understand that this is because I have 7,000 miles on my car and there is a suggested service at 7,500 miles. I plan to have my oil changed locally. My Honda dealer was anything but local. The local mechanic is a Honda specialist. Everyone I know who drives Hondas, new or vintage, swears by him. Is it likely that he will know how to turn off this light or do I have to drive out to timbuktu to my Honda dealer to get the light turned off?

My Odyssey is a 2003, on the road since January 7... Havasu blue and very well loved.

There is a procedure for that which is explained in the Owner's Manual. I have 99EX and it's in the manual (though I don't remember how to do it off hand). I would assume that the newer models have it too. It's a really easy thing to do.

Just FYI, I have searched and read my manual. The search I did here only confirmed what my manual said, which was that service was due. The only service due at 7,500 miles is an oil change and tire rotation. It does not say how to turn off the annoying light. It does suggest that you BUY the "service" manual. Arrrrgh

I really want to know how to do this before my husband starts poking around in my engine compartment trying to do it himself. He may succeed, but I don't want to know what else might get disconnected along the way.

I am not trying to be snotty here, but I also am not trying to be lazy. I would not have posted the question without doing research first.

It is really a very simple procedure.

With the Ody off, put the key in the ignition. Press the ODOMETER trip-reset button and hold in. Now turn the ignition ON (don't start the engine). Continue to hold the trip-reset button in. The Maintenance light will flash for about ten seconds and then stop. When it stops, you are done.

Have a great day and drive safe!

That's interesting. Page 70 of my 02 model's owner's manual gives precise and explicit instructions for turning off the maintenance indicator light--for "if this maintenance is done by someone other than your Honda dealer".

    Got It

Found it. There were TWO sections on the light in my owner's manual. Went back and found the way to shut it off. Thanks to the '02 owner who said page 70 in his book, found an additional section on page 80 in my book. THANKS
