The seat look OK. But, after all the work I took both heads to the shop for machining. When I checked compression starting with cylinder 1 I had 150,158,152,165,0,160. Or something close to this.

It took a long time to dig this deep into the engine. I think at this point it worth it to machine both heads, replace all cooling/heating hoses, water pump, all belts, etc. This adds cost but... I think it's worth it.

I live on our family farm and am lucky enough to be coached by our mechanic and have the resource of the shop tools.

Antonio has repeatedly reminded me to label everything; hoses, wires, and bolts. Everything is easy to take apart. Putting it back together is the big puzzle. I like to cheat.

I just review my post on Nov. 7. To clear up the end of the post.

I replaced the threads using a system called Time-Sert. Started the engine and it ran rough.

I believe the plug finally blew out because the previous owner or Honda cross threaded the plug. This was a Honda Certified pre-owned vehicle. When the plug blew, a chunk of junk was stuck between the valve and seat resulting in a small burn hole in the seat.

    Finished

So I yanked the heads... which was a first for me. Had them machined. Replaced the valves which was incredibly expensive.

While waiting for the machine shop, I decide to replace things like hoses while the engine compartment was open. The aluminum tubes the heater hoses connect to are very, very fragile. Take care not to bend them as I did.

After taking my time putting the engine back together, it ran great. I had one sensor I missed. After plugging it in, my check engine like disappeared.

Thanks for the posts. They helped a lot.

You are to be congratulated on the success of a huge job!

The same done by a garage would have cost many $1,000's.

I too have a stuck coil and burned up plug and damaged cylinder head threads. My van is a 2004 and has 65350 miles. The head needs replaced or repaired. I don't know if any internal damage has been done to the cylinder, piston or valves. The bottom of the spark plug is missing the elctrode and the piece of metal that forms the gap. Honda America will not submit my case unless I have a honda dealer evaluate the problem. I took the pieces I pulled out of the cyl head to the dealer and the service manager said he has only seen other case like it and they replaced a short blocked engine under a extended warranty. I dont have the extended warranty. No signs of problems never had an engine light until this happened. As soon as my wife got the light I drove to the van and drove it home. I only drove it maybe 8 miles since the engine light came on. I bought the van new because we owned a "Deathstar" (1995 Ford Windstar) that was plauged with head cylinder gasket problems, timing cover gasket problems and transmission problems. I thought with the Honda I was buying a van I could drive for 150000 miles before having any major repairs.

Sorry to revive and old thread but I just discovered this same issue today. All of a sudden the van ran rough and was throwing misfire CEL codes. Check the coils 1 by 1 and found the bad one, went to remove it, and the top just crumbled off in my hand. After some work I was able to get it out but now no matter what I do I can't seem to get the plug out. I have a spark plug socket with and extension and as soon as I get around it I pull and the extension separates and I leave half in the tube. I can wiggle it out but still no plug? Anyone have any tips.

99 107,000 I don't think its been tuned up ever.

Go to Sears and buy a locking extension. Actually, buy 2 3 inch extensions, and before you go make sure your socket has an indent for the ball on the extension to grab.

The reason to get two 3 inch extensions is that for the front bank, the radiator and such gets in the way if you try to use a single 6 inch extension.

Thumbs up Stuck/Seized ignition coil - 2000 Honda Odyssey Van EX

First, thank you to LittleNeck for without his posts I may not have been successful in my venture to remove a stuck ignition coil from the front-center sparkplug tube. I tried to include pictures for others that may experience this problem but I was unsucessful uploading the 6-<100k pictures.
First, I was inspecting the spark plugs which I had replaced at 100,000 miles. I noticed the front-left spark plug had loosened slightly so I removed it, inspected it, and reinstalled it. Next, I checked the front-right spark plug and found it even looser. I then removed it, inspected it, and reinstalled it. I then "attempted" to remove the ignition coil from the front-center plug. When it would not come off, I used a flat head screwdriver to pry up on the ignition coil connector. That was where all of my trouble began because the top broke off and I was left with very little of the coil to "pull" out on because it was seized. I ended up uncoiling the ignition coil wiring and then drilling a hole down through the center about 1". Once the hole was drilled, I was able to insert a screw and pry the ignition coil out using a crescent wrench and a block of wood. Once the coil was removed, I noticed the spark plug time had loosened up and possibly caused this whole scenario. I also found the plug was slightly loose and may have had some blowby. I was able to remove the plug successfully and the threads and plug looked decent. I then purchased 1 new coil ($44) and three new spark plugs($2.99 ea) for the front three cylinders. The installation went down without any problems.

Thanks guys for posting on this " stuck coil issues" . Last night I was changing coils on my Acura 2000 TL when the top part of #4 broke off. I panicked, closed the hood and went to do some research on what to do. Now I have an idea and will get back on removing the stuck coil. Will update later on my progress...
