I always wanted a minivan. My friends called me odd, but I didn't care. Odyssey stood out among its peers. I loved its style and functionality. So one fateful night in April 2013, I finally purchased my first Odyssey. Now I am a very proud owner of Odyssey. My beauty's specs are 2012 Black Odyssey EX-L with Navi.

My 2003 does not have that part. It has the intake tube (open end up) in front of the air filter housing, but not the deflector. I was looking in the shop manual and it said to remove that deflector first before removing the engine air filter housing for a filter change. It was probably removed by some repair shop or? (I bought it second-hand after it had an accident on the right front hitting a guardrail and was repaired).
Anyhow, is it worth trying to find that deflector or jury-rigging something up and just forget about it?
What is it's purpose, overall (deflect cooler air, hotter air, water, birds)? :)
Thanks,

Hello,

I have a 2002 Odyssey with 196,000. Bought is used from a family member; vehicle was well maintained often by the dealer when the family member had it.

Went to Church Sunday, on the way home at a stop light I noticed the engine started vibrating. I was close to home so, I continued driving. While driving the CEL began flashing. I took it to Autozone and pulled the codes. There was a P1399 - misfire detected.

I did some research, and saw this video on Youtube:

Used the procedure, and replaced the #4 coil pack with a replacement from Autozone. Started the vehicle and the CEL light was off (as well as the TCS light, which had also come on when I initially took the van to get the codes checked). Took the van back to Autozone to clear the codes, and while driving the engine was running rough and CEL came back on (both flashing or continuously on). Cleared the codes, but they came right back. Checked the codes before clearing them and had the P1399 code, but also PO301 (misfire cylinder 1), P0306 (misfire cylinder 6), and P0300 (multiple misfire).

Have seen a lot of issues posted about the EGR valve and other emissions issues, but am not getting any of those codes.

At this point, I am just looking for some direction. I know that throwing parts at a vehicle can become expensive, but also want to avoid taking the van to the shop. This is my wife's primary vehicle so, I am also trying to prevent too much down time.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks a lot,

Dante

I see 2007 thread on hooking up an ipod/iphone to a 2004 Odyssey, but since the last post in it was 3 years ago and many of the links no longer work, I figured I'd start fresh. Here's the old thread, for reference:
http://www.odyclub.com/forums/24-199...x-l-res-2.html

I just bought a 2004 Odyssey Ex-L-RES, and want to connect my iphone to the factory stereo. In my old car, I had an aftermarket stereo with usb/aux/bluetooth inputs, which worked great, but I assume that there's no way to replace the factory stereo in this without losing functionality for the dvd player etc. So, what's the best option at this point?

I see a bunch of modules out there that list the 04 odyssey as supported, and many specifically exclude those with a factory nav system, but not the dvd. I haven't had a chance to check for the cd changer connector on the back of the stereo. Based on that previous thread, it sounds like I should have it. I think i'd prefer a cd changer input over a box that connects in-line with the antenna. Ideally, I'd love a box that supports a USB connection, a stereo miniplug input, and bluetooth. If it supports bluetooth for phone calls as well as just playing music/podcasts, even better. Realistically, any one of those inputs would be enough, but if I can get all of them it's a bonus. I definitely don't want anything with a hardwired ipod cable, as I have an iphone 5, and need the lightning cable. I'd prefer just a USB port on the box and I can supply the cable myself.

Worst case scenario, I'll run an RCA cable to the 3rd row seat and into the aux inputs there, but I'd prefer to leave those available as a separate input option.

Anyone have experience with this? What did you use?

We bought a 2006 EX-L (aftermarket DVD) in July of 2011 and a week and a half ago it was struck while parked on the street. Insurance company totaled it. I saw this as an opportunity to do some upgrading of the family hauler. We just picked up a 2008 EX-L w/ RES with only 62000 miles. Price was $18751 before any fees. The only little thing wrong with the van is 2 scratches on the hood. How did I do?

2002 Honda Odyssey EX (w/oem security)

I'm installing a CrimeStopper remote start w/bypass into my Odyssey and I have everything installed, and it is working properly except for one wire I can not find. 3 successive ground pulses on the remote start "activity" wire starts the car, which works if I touch any ground 3 times... but for the life of me, I can not find the "Motor Lock" wire it's supposed to connect to. Supposedly, connecting the motor lock wire allows my key fob to start the car with the lock/unlock/lock sequence, but all of the wires I tried don't seem to be the right one. The chart they emailed me says that the "Motor Lock" wire is a White/Red wire in the 12 pin green connector at the driver side fuse box. My issue is... there is like 4 "green" connectors, with at least 3 white/red wires. I will attach a picture to show what I mean.

Anyways, can someone tell me which wire is the right wire?

Thanks in advance!

Just bought an 06 Odyssey about 2 months ago. It shifted fine when I bought it, but then the transmission overheated while my wife was driving it home from Detroit. I replaced the fluid (the 3x drain and fill), and about a week later it overheated again. Van has 135k on it.

This morning it brought it in to the dealer to do some diagnostics on why it overheated. Turns out I need a new tranny as several of the clutches were shot. The dealership felt bad for me and didn't charge the $82.00 diagnostic fee :).

Anyway-just trying to figure out where to go from here. Below are the options I've come up with:

1. Pay dealer $4000 to swap transmission. Not happening.
2. Soft part rebuild locally for $1700.
3. Buy used transmission for $400-$600 and I found a guy to install for $600, making $1000-$1200 total.
4. Buy rebuilt tranny for around $2000 and pay the $600 for installation.

Any suggestions or advice? Not really sure what to do. I'm hoping to pay as little as possible, but I'm not crazy about a junkyard transmission that just might fail in 2 months. Anyone have recommendations for an aftermarket/rebuilt transmission?

Also-my understanding is that I have the bgra tranny, which was used from 05-07. Are there other variations that I need to be aware of? Want to make sure I get the right part.

Thanks for your help!

I have had a been a Odyssey owner for a year now. Purchased the 2012 Touring Elite in May 0f 2012 OTD for 40070. We added the towing package to the van due to needing to tow very infrequently and short distances but, did see the need for the tranny cooler due to the problems we have seen on the forums. The van now has 16000 + miles with no issues. My wife tells me I am anal on making sure things are done on time and I am a believer in the maint minder on the van.:D The vehicle I traded in was a 2009 Acura MDX Sport RES with 59000 miles and the only reason we got rid of it was due to needing more room for the grandkids as the MDX while a great car was limited on storage for traveling. Acura does not have a van so looked at all the makes and models out there and decided on the Ody. Due to all of the bells and whistles on the TE I did purchase the Honda Care (from the place in RI at an excellent price) and know if something happens I will be covered for 8 yrs or 100,000 miles. We are a 3 car family and find we are using the Ody for all trips as it is an extremely comfortable ride and good gas mileage. We get 22 around town and 29 at 55 to 58 mph. It drops to 27 to 28 at 75 mph and I consider this excellent for a 8 passenger mini van. I have owned Honda products since 2000 and have enjoyed all of them with a host of Acura products also. I have not experienced any issues with the tranny and did have the airbag recall checked with no issues. The Ody is not a luxury mini van but, is a very good all around vehicle. I was surprised when I took it for a test drive and found most of the features and controls for the elite the same as the MDX had with the addition of the blind spot indicators. Very nice feature. My other cars are 2011 Malibu and a 1995 Mustang Cobra play car ;). I expect many years of good service from the Ody. The user name is my nickname with the date showing my age as I am retired and enjoy traveling

What I discovered while doing a detail on the interior is another DVD player under the drivers seat. Caught me by surprise and really don't know why there would be one there. With the 6 disc changer behind the NAV screen and the rear DVD player in the center console, why another DVD player? I cannot find anything in the owners manual that indicates a factory or dealer option for the additional player nor can I imagine a need for it. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a 2005 Odyssey EX that has a vibration problem on long road trips. I have tried searching and found many vibration problems but not exactly the same.

During normal driving around town there is not a noticeable vibration. When coming up to speed on a freeway on ramp there is a vibration that starts at 45 mph and tapers off around 60-65. Car drives OK at freeway speed but not as smooth as I would expect.

The real problem is on long road trips. After 5-7 hours of driving the van shakes very, very bad at freeway speed. Reducing speed to >50mph makes it stop. The first time this happened my wife was driving from Phoenix, Arizona to Utah. The problem happened after St. George so it was 7-8 hours in to the trip. I was never able to replicate it until our next trip to Arizona. On the drive down we made it to Kanab no problem (5 hours). About an hour outside of Paige the car started to shake badly at speeds above 55mph. The problem would go away if I put the car in Neutral or took my foot of the accelerator. We stopped in Flagstaff at Findlay Honda. The dealer diagnosed it as a bad CV axle on the passenger side. They could not change it that day so we decided to push on to Phoenix. They were nice enough not to charge me a dime for looking at the car. We had been stopped for about two hours and the problem went away for the rest of the trip. I changed the CV axle in Phoenix and the car was fine driving around Phoenix for a week. On the trip back the vibration was gone until we got past Vegas and the problem started again (6-7 hours in) and continued all the way home at >50mph. The next day the car drove as it does now and has not shook like that since then. I assume that it will start again as soon as we take another long road trip.

I am not sure if it is the other CV axle or a motor mount or something else entirely. I can talk myself in to the CV axle because the grease would spin away after hours of driving. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for the great forum. I have found many helpful suggestions here.
