I understand that the new trans has an internal modification. Odys out on the road with the unmodified transmissions are eligible for a modification kit to be installed. The recall to have your kit installed is being issued according to mileage or age of the vehicle, so that Honda service departments aren't overwhelmed having to work on every single Ody all at once.
I had my AT jet kit installed yesterday. It took 1.5 hours at Honda. It looks like they added a hose that goes into the top of the tranny where you would normally add AT fluid (the 17mm plug), and there is are a bunch of little brackets holding the new hose in place. The hose appears to come from the firewall side of the trans.
Last week, I installed an aftermarket trans fluid cooler. The hoses I installed were not touched by the kit. I have no idea how one is to add AT fluid with the kit installed, now that the filler hole is obscured by new hardware. My guess is that the kit has to be removed in order to add fluid.
It used to only require a 17mm socket and about 18 inches of socket extension to remove / replace the plug. And a breaker bar - the plug is probably the only bolt on the car that is really tight. Now it looks like one would have to remove all sorts of air ducts to get to all the bolts that hold the "jet kit" in place.
