Montreal info

Salut!

I have a very important question for those familiar with Montreal: Which restaurant serves the best creme brulee? We have a friend who plans to visit in the spring. He is on a mission to find the best. We'll need to sample some restaurants for him, but there are so many, we need help in deciding where to start.

Living in Montreal has been interesting so far. My husband loves his job, and the kids are having fun (despite the extra work I assign). In some ways, living here is not much different than the US, but it definitely is not the same. We encounter more bureaucracy, but much of it is because we are immigrants (still doesn't sound right).

Getting ready for the cold and learning French seem to be the main goals at the moment. I've retained enough of my college French to help me in my current French course. I have moved up to the ever-so-slightly advanced level +1 for the next session. Still can't understand very well, but thanks to the TV's closed captioning my reading has improved. We're trying to speak more French at home to help everyone improve.

I took my older daughter to see the new Harry Potter movie at the IMAX theater downtown. She thought we would have to go to New York City for an IMAX theater (hey, she's 9). She's not used to being in an urban area. I think she was hoping we would have to go to NYC so she could go to the American Girl store.

I'm getting used to being here. It's been over a month since I've been seriously lost. I've left the island unintentionally towards the north, south, and east. But now I know where the space center and the Biosphere are!

J

Plusieurs immigrant comme vous ne se forcent pas a apprendre cette langue et meme apres 25 ou 30 ans ici a Montreal, ils ne parlent pas encore un seul mot de francais.

Passez de joyeuses fetes!!!

OK, without looking up anything, I think I get the gist...

Welcome...

Unfortunately you can't help me with the creme brulee, but you want to congratulate (?) me on my enthusiasm to learn French.

Many immigrants like me don't try to learn this language and after 25-30 years in Montreal, they still don't speak a word of French.

Happy Holidays!

How's that? Thanks for using only the present tense.

Merci!

Hé ! Salut JMN !

Glad to see you're adapting well ! Congrats on your efforts with French !

Merci, phil!

Blueprint,

Thanks for asking your wife. I had to break out the dictionary for your post. I didn't know "dégusté" or "par contre". Remember, I'm still level 1 (seems like out of 100!) What is "crème caramel"? I'm a cheesecake fan myself.

Merci!
