Not your usual sliding door problem

This is not your everyday sliding door problem...

I have a 2000 LX with dual power doors. The drivers side door was not operating properly, so I cleaned the contacts, pulled fuse 13 etc. The door still wouldn't close fully so I started messing arround with the latch. Big mistake on my part : ) Anyway, I flipped the catch on the back side of the door to it's locked position and can't seem to unlock it. The catch is a small white plastic piece on the back side of the door that rotates to grab a U shaped bar on the back portion of the door frame.

I've tried all of the locks, handles and buttons, but I can't seem to get the latch to release so that I can manually shut the door. Any ideas? I'm a little gun shy about opening up the panes on the door and making matters worse.

First I've heard of an LX having power sliding doors...sure it's not an EX? Anyway, I'm no expert on power sliders but it sounds like you need to get that catch on the door back in its original position. And clean the sliding electrical door contacts on the pillar side with an eraser (not too hard) while your at it.

Scotter12345,

I believe your original problem is the closer motor is not working to completely close the door.

See the following link for a procedure with pics:

As for fixing your current problem, you may have to pull the panel and access one of the cables that trigger that latch assembly.

Good Luck,
