Hoot Owl Moaning in Rear

Hey guys!! I haven't been on here in quite a while. My 99 is doing great!! Live in Texas and have been to Florida, South Dakota (Mt. Rushmore), Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Colorado. Have 95000 miles and am about to have timing belt changed.
We have not changed any shocks or strutts on the van and have developed a Hoot Owl type moaning in the rear (especially the right side) at slow speeds. Mainly when bumping up into driveways and parking lots. I know it must be shocks/strutts or some bushing/bearing. I have searched this forum thinking someone has had this problem but have been unsuccessful in finding anything. Please tell me I just need new strutts!!
Thanks for any information.

Hmmmmm, sounds like worn shock or worn bushing to me (just as you suggested). IMO, the cheapest fix attempt would be to put new shocks in if you or mechanic can't pinpoint exact cause.

Well it wound up being a shot shock. No one carries them around here - not even the Honda dealer ($82 buck each). Orielly's order two Monroe Reflex out of Houston (had 2 in warehouse), for $45 each and a lifetime warrenty - will have them Tuesday.

I can not tell you how great this site has been in helping me this weekend.

I changed the spark plugs on my '99 with 99k and experience the strange sounds I have read about on this site, but used antiseize when replacing. So easy I don't know why I considered letting the dealership change them for $250.
I changed the ATF with a 4x3 12 quart change (have had the dealership change twice before and they just did the 3 quart). Many things were overcome by reading this forum. Mainly having the extentions and breaker bar for the fill plug made this job a snap.
I removed the bad shock today to discover it was the culpret and put it back on until I get the Monroe's. It too was an easy job (quoted by dealer at $360). I keep reading this site and I may tackle the timing belt change (dealer quoted $850). No, just kidding. I will leave that one to the real mechanic.
My wife and dad were both impressed that I would even tackle some of these jobs, but after reading here, it was almost like I had done it before.
As you can see, even with using Honda ATF and spark plugs, I saved alot of money this weekend thanks to you guys (especially Jerry O).
Thanks again!!!!!

DIY work feels good. Once done, you know exactly what has and has not been done and HOW it was done. We're all glad we can help, with what little we know.
