thoughts on my 2006 EX-L
I bought a 2006 EX-L, black with ivory interior, for $27,400 + TTL in the beginning of June.
It replaces my 2002 Dodge Neon R/T. With more kids coming, it was just too small.
I just passed 3000 miles. About half of the miles are commuting miles and half are from a trip from the DC area to Georgia and back.
Economy: about 20 MPG in mixed commuting driving (30 miles on way, lots of stop and go). Highest so far is 24 MPG on 100% interstate cruising at 75-85 MPH.
Interior: Fit and finish are nice. Carpet soils too easily--Weathertech mats should arrive Thursday. Disappointed that radio doesn't have a true AUX jack. Didn't like radio sound at first (compared to slightly better system in Neon) but I'm getting over it. Sometimes the seats are hard to slide or fold. On second row, doing things "out of order" gets the seat stuck in folded down position--very frustrating for my parents.
Exterior: Already have broken lower grille teeth and dents in the transmission lines from road debris--Mr. Grille is on order. Wish the black paint were just gloss black instead of this sort of blue mica. Pulled off the dealer's pinstripes.
Power: Great punch at takeoff, but there is torque steer. Transmission reluctant to downshift at freeway speeds. It's better than other vans I drove, so I guess I got the best I could. Yeah yeah, it's just a minivan, whatever.
Handling: Impressive for a van. Can take most curves and ramps at the same speeds I did in the Neon (not at the limit, but quickly).
