3000 miles, San Diego to Montana RT

Hi Folks,

Our family just came back from a long three week road trip using our 05 Ody EXL. I can't tell you how much we loved it. My son used to get car sick within a short time in our other vehicles, but this time with the Ody's smooth ride he was great. We visited Yellowstone, Crow Agency, Grand Tetons, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Park.

We had lots of power for going up mountains and passing when needed. Our milage ranged from 25-27mpg which I am very happy with given the fact we were blasting up mountains and were generally around 80mph. Also, I found that D3 is wonderful for climbing and descending on mountain roads. The only time I had to use D2 was once or twice on the Beartooth Highway out of Yellowstone (gorgeous drive, highly recommend it, you climb to nearly 12,000 ft altitude.)

A couple of times we met with friends and being able to carry eight people was very useful. Also in doing some work projects I had to transport some materials and tables. No problem for the Ody.

Also, if anyone is in the market for a basic driving GPS, I highly recommend the Garmin I2. This little unit is the cheapest unit I could find, (around $220 on Amazon) but uses a highly sensitive SIRF receiver and the latests Navtec maps. More to the point, it always knew where we were and directed us flawlessly. (In lots of places like Wyoming, there are many unmarked intersections. It is very comforting to have your GPS tell you to "Turn Left Here."). Oh, and the unit is so small, it fits in the shelf of the top storage unit while driving. No unwieldy mounts, and you can hide it away or install it again in literally about 5 seconds.

All in all our family loves our Ody and was well served by it. Anyone else have some great drives this summer?

Mannix

Thumbs up Congratulations!

That sounds like a fantastic Summer road trip. We also thoroughly enjoy driving/ridingin our Ody. The latest to Yosemite NP from the Bay Area.

Thanks for the word on the portable navi. I have passed that info onto my brothers and friends who wanted a cheaper alternative (after seeing our Ody's navi ... )

Hope to see pictures... No travel thread is complete without some pictures...
