Karma is out baby!

OK i'm venting now.

2am this morning I was sleeping on my couch...Everyone knows that if you have a 3 month old baby---u might as well sleep wherever...

So I hear my dogs growl, I quietly tell them to be quiet. I then hear a few footsteps in my kitchen. I thought it was my wife getting formula for the little one. Well then, I hear the door to my garage shut. My first thought was, "Why is wifey going outside at 2am?"...So I get up look around open the door and the garage door is open. I also notice my driveway light sensors were turned on. I run back inside the house, I find both my kids sleeping with my wife! Not until the next morning I tell wifey that "I think someone was in our house last night..." 10 minutes later she tells me her purse is missing off the kitchen counter.

So I do the usual counter measures, stop all credit cards, put a alert on credit reports call the cops etc. Then I realize the ODYSSEY keys! This son of a B@itch has my keys. I need them reprogrammed. Call the dealer- Dealer says $98 to reprogram the chip keys, $58 for a new remote, and $30 for a new key. But they said this will only prevent someone from starting the car not getting into the car because the lock tumblers aren't switched. I wouldn't care about that too much, but I realize that even if I switch my keys, they can come back get into my car if parked on the driveway and use my lovely homelink system to open my garage door to steal all the other stuff out of my house. Honda says to fix this issue is to replace all lock tumblers in the driver door, ignition switch, glove box and lazy susan for a whopping $1000!

Karma is going to get this SUCKA!

P.S. Since nothing was broken, Homeowners and Auto Insruance does not cover...Already called.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, but I'm definitely glad no harm to your family came out of it. Were your house keys missing at all? How did they get in?

House Keys were not in the purse-

I think I may have left the garage door open--OR they got into my unlocked accord and opened the garage door via remote--Not likely

Got the police report---They didn't check for prints---Wouldn't have made much of a difference, I opened that door knob I don't know how many times looking for that purse! Sometimes I don't think...

I am glad you and your family are Ok; my wife says I am paranoid, my nightly routine is to check the garage door, disable the RF garage door opener (even though both cars are in the garage), and check all 3 doors in the house are locked. I've been wanting to get a laser target for my 45 and some of the shotgun-type bullets to protect my family in case a crack-head decides it wants to come into our house uninvited ;-)

Thanks for all your support!

I'm just glad my family is safe and sound. Other items can be replaced.

Never be to parnoid. I used to be, but now i'm back up to it.

Maybe I should leave my garage door open tonight and wait for a lovely payback on the guy!

My gripe is that Honda should have made the Home Link system work only if the preprogramed key is in the ignition. The way Honda has it setup is absolutely unacceptable.

I agree, but if I recall correctly, this is how the Homelink system was setup on both Nissans and one Chevy that we've had with it.

We are lucky to have a Garage Door system that lets you "ignore", or lock-out, RF (remote control) signals. I use it every night because it is possible/easy to "clone" the remote.

Dead bolt on your man door into the house? Never leave your door unlocked - this is an easy entry point if you leave your garage door up.

Not likely? How about VERY likely!

I know of at least two instances where this WAS the means used by the perpetrators to get into a garage, and THEN into the house, as virtually nobody locks the door from the garage into the house.

To make matters worse, most people clip those remotes to their sun visors. One glance in, see the remote, then get into the car, even if it is locked. We make it so easy for them, practically like handing them the keys to the house.

As far as the expenses concerned, how much value do you place on you and your family? These days, home security should not be put off until you are invaded/robbed. Something to think about......

We keep the remotes out of site in the gloveboxes and the van is garaged so that the homelink is inaccessable. It seems that the thieves around here are a little smarter in that when they see a remote on a visor, they will take it hoping you don't notice it missing, and come back when no one is home. The moral: hide your remotes!

Thumbs up Out of the shadows...

The intrude would be in for a surprise at my place. Our Doberman sleeps on the couch downstairs and she has one wicked protective streak... And since the lights are off and she is black no one would even see her comming...
