Speakers

I just installed a record player in the car (no I won't use is while I
am driving) and i was wondering how to hook it up to directly to the car speakers while still being able to use them for the OEM radio ( kind of like a kvm switch).

Start by telling us what you have. 95-98,99-04,05-07?
LX, EX, EX-L NAV, EX-L RES?

The term you are looking for for searching is in out as in the locations of the wires in the plug in the back of the head unit. There are units that plug into the accessory jack behind the radio and allow you to plug any audio source in. To play it, you select CD2.

But for the best answers, be specific. As specific as possible. go ahead, bore us with facts.

You mean one of these? I have a couple nice home models, but I don't have the mobile unit... Please show us some pics! This has got to be a first - at least at OdyClub.

So you'd use it for tunes with a specific purpose/function in mind? and only when stopped, of course. Otherwise why not copy all your albums to CD or MP3 or your format of choice? At any rate to play through your vehicle stereo you'll need an Aux-In adapter (probably what you're thinking of for a KVM) w/ RCA plugs for the turntable, and the proper connector for going into the back of your stereo head unit (there are multiple brands available - search the forum), and a pre-amp of some sort too unless your turntable has one built in (most do not). How do you plan to power it? Inverter?

Here is a start on what you will need: There are various models depending on whether or not you have Navigation and what you want to plug in. You are looking for the simple one. A little box with a plug that goes into the back of the radio and left and right female rca plugs. Depending on the line level of the record player, you may need a pre-amp.

I power it directly without an inverter. It runs internally @ 13 V DC so i just wired it i( bypass the internal AC- DC tranformer) into the the accessories circuit. It has no preamp, just a buncch of rca outputs

Ill post pics soon when i can move the car into a sunnier spot (its currently in an underground garage. It needs a wash too)

How about the records "skipping" ? Do you have a damper system for the turntable ?

Re: Speakers

Hopefully they won't skip while he is parked... otherwise he's got some badly scratched records...

LMAO

If he had RES it would be easier to do this trick.... just plug into where the game system ports are The only other way I can think of is the way egads suggested.

My question is why do you have a record player?

Only thing I could think of is long moonlit walks followed by some record music cuddling in the van when done...

Hmm... this may be the more obvious reason for the records skipping...

hukumuzuku will have to speak up for themselves, but I think records are cool! I have hundreds of 'em. There's just something about spinning vinyl, tho' I must admit I had never thought of playing records in the van. Ever. Also, depending on ones music preference, there's a bunch of old tunes that will probably never see CD (or any other "new" format) unless one converts them on their own. This is my plan for my collection.

I guess the new Ody commercials try to take you back to the 70's... so maybe he is just going that extra step.

Well i happen to have a lot of records that do not exist in any
other format and i had a spare record player that could fit under
the back seat. So it is obvious that it would go in the Odyssey.
