i-VES aspect ratio & AUX2 Input

Hi,

Finally picked up my long awaited Ody Navi and got an i-VES installed in it. On the i-VES, it seems like there is no way to get a widescreen version video to fill up the whole screen. In widescreen mode the screen is only stretch but there is no option to remove the top and bottom black lines from screen. Is there any internal/external switch I can tweak? Is this a function of the monitor supposingly? Kind of stupid to have a widescreen that can't play widescreen video.

Will this work with any DVD player hook up to it?

Also, there is an AUX2 input selection. Is there another Auxiliary input at back of the video player? Or to the monitor?

regards,

Mecca

some widescreen movies will not fill up the entire screen no matter what setting you have.

i just had a small jensen dvd player installed under the flip down tray. it's hard wired into the ignition and it's using the aux2 inputs. the tech said the ives is using a cicuit board for the video connections so he couldn't tap into the video. it's no big deal because you can easily unplug them and plug something else. the but the rca bcables underneath the ives console and then drilled a hole through the pocket on the console to run the rca wires so they could be out of the way. it also came with an infrared eye that he mounted on the ives console for the remote. the beauty is that you can flip down the centray tray and hit eject on the player very easily.

Thanks for the info. I'm still a bit confused though. Is there really an Aux2 input? I know the Aux1 input in front of the VCR console and I can use that with no problem. However the remote for iVES allow me to select an AUX2 input, which I may be interested in using if I were to permanently install another device like an DVD player. Are you really using the AUX2 input?

Do you have pics of your installation? Sounds like you have a pretty nice set up. I may be interested in doing something similar at some point?

Also, are you able to play an undistorted 16x9 movie on the iVES screen through any video tape at all? How about from the DVD player?

Thx!

regards,

Mecca

Sorry I confused you. You are right. I used the aux1 not 2 inputs. I didn't realize there was a menu selection for aux2. I will take a look and ask the installer at some point to look at it more closely. maybe he overlooked it.

if you do this, i recommend you try to find one of those portable players with either a screen (expensive so far) or an lcd display on top that shows menu information. remember that if you are in the front you can't see the screen in the back so you don't know what to select to get the dvd going. you can have the installer hardwire a converter to your ignition and just plug it in.

one thing i have noticed is that with a dvd versus a vhs tape, is that for short trips it's not worth using the dvd player. the problem is that the player is powered off when you turn the car on. i guess since turning the vehicle on requires a lot of juice, electricity to all components is cutoff. So you then have to power the dvd player back on, then navigate to the proper scene to get back to where you were. the portabale players might offer a solution since they also use batteries. so maybe the batteries kick in when it detects an interruption in power. if the batteries charge while it's plugged in, then it would be an ideal solution.

keep your eye on this forum. people keep finding cheap portable dvd players. none with a screen so far, but that panasonic one was an lcd. just don't know how much useful info appears on it.
