Angry Wife damaged my sliding door.

Wife scraped the passanger side sliding door and rear quarter panel. She took to a friend's bodyshop and got a (discounted price) estimate $800.- But he made a comment that Honda power sliding has some problem. He also told wife we could take it to dealer to get a quote, he said dealer probably will charget us a couple grands.

I have no problem with my 01 power door so far. Knock on woods.

Since it will cost us $800, our insurance has $500 deductible. We are not going to claim thru our insurance.

Question is: Shall we take it to our friend's shop to take it fixed? What's the chance of him messing up the power door? Or shall we take it to dealer to get it done? What's the guaranty that dealer won't mess up?

Any comments?

Well, he is your friend and hopefully you know what kind of work his shop does for their other customers.

Or, let me put it in another way, if he wasn't your friend and you where not getting a discount, would you take your Ody to his shop? If your answer is YES, then let him fix it. If you answer is NO, find another body shop.

Why not let insurance pay $300? Most insurance companies do not raise rates for claims under $500 (out of their pocket).

anyone knows the phone number for lucman's wife???

if you have a good insurance agent you can ask (before you call a claim number) how the repair will change your insurance over the next couple years. if you end up using your insurance look into 2 options. 1) dealer fix 2) friend fix..... some people would have their friend's shop fix it for $1,300 so the insurance company pays $800 and you pay the $500 deductible (which your friend returns to you as a customer loyalty referral...)

i have found that the insurance company will want you to use some place you have not heard of but they usually guarantee their repairs for life (better then the original honda paint warrantee)

I don't think your insurance will go up either, especially if you have been with the company for a while and have little no to history. Contact them first, it could well be worth saving $300? From what I am reading will the entire door have to be replaced?
Perhaps a good time for the body shop to touch up any dings/scratches on your Ody too (paint the rear window spoiler?).
I was rear-ended in my VW two weeks ago (by a meth-using driver). Although the accident turned into a hit+run, my insurance will not go up one $ (per State Farm)...and no I didn't punch him, then run off...hehe.
It seems 'reading between the lines' that the rates go up from large collisions/liability situations/etc and not routine dents/dings (like you would have in a parking lot. A good agent will tell you the information you need before making a decision.

I am with AIG. AIG is direct no agents. I am already paying too much ($2150 for 6 months, just got a premium break used to be $2650 for 6 months) due to my 17 years old daughter (I have been shopping around this is the lowest I can find now). My younger daughter is 15 now, she will get her license next year. I am concerning my insucrance will be astro high next year (sky high now). So I try to keep my claim record clean in case I need to shop around for new insurance co next year.

BTW, this body shop friend (we know his wife). He said if we are going to claim through insurance he could give 2nd estimate which will be higher than $800 and depends on the insurance adjuster we could get some "rebate" on our $500 deductible.

I am not sure he need to replace the whole sliding door. According to my observation, rear quarter panel will be replaced then just replace the skin of sliding door. Sliding door still works great, no rattle no unusual noise due to "accident".

I'm with Habs11's reply.

Try a call the Travelers. I pay $4000 year for four cars for just my wife and I and that includes excessive coverage for the extra extra value that I put into my Ody.

I bought a LX in '01 because two of my friends said they had trouble with the doors on their EX's and they couldn't be overridden. They're both in the electronics business so they have a good idea of what to do.

Oh yeah, don't get rid of your wife. Just try and get some extra back rub treatments...

Well wife makes more $$$ than a brandnew Ody a year. If I want to get rid of wife I will lost more than an Ody. Probably an arm and a leg too. LOL.
I guess the worse could happen is to have trouble with my power sliding door after the repair work. Then I will have a very good reason to trade it in for a 2004 Ody hehe. I think wife will not object that since it was her who messed up the power sliding door.
