Folding Third row "Stuck" in Up Position?

I have an 00 ody that I bought less than a year ago with only 17,000 miles at the time.

We've driven it quite a bit, but not folded the back seat up and down many times.

Well, I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow morning and when loading the ody I find that the third row seat is stuck. Pulling the strap and handle does nothing.

When pulling the handle, there is no resistance, no action, as though it has lost whatever connection it is supposed to have.

Has anyone experienced this? I don't have time to drive the 50 miles to a Honda dealer before my trip

How did this happen?

When you pull the handle in the middle of the seat, are you flipping the seat back forward? If the 2000 is like our 2003, you have to fold the seat back down and *then* fold the seat into the floor (two completely separate actions). Not implying you aren't doing it right and that there isn't something wrong, but since you didn't mention whether the top of the seat was folding down okay I thought I would mention this.

Yes, sorry I left that out, the top of the seat will fold all the way down (or click into its other two positions) but the base of the seat won't budge even with the back folded down.

It's just curious because I'm the only one who does the adjusting so it's not like it could have been mishandled to be "broken". Just a mystery....

Perusing back quite a few pages I found the same problem described - here

Guess I'll have to take it in when we get back.

Cynthia, glad you found my posting on the third row seat problem. Your problem sounds identical to mine. I'm surprised that we haven't heard more members reporting it because the design is poor.

Have a good trip and good luck at the dealers, especially if your 3-year warranty is up.

If you decide to DIY, I'd recommend getting a screw driver with a 90-degree bent tip. Slim fingers would also help in reattaching the cable end(s).

I had used my magic seat probably 4 times in the 3 years I had it. A week after my warranty ran out, I tried to put it down, and it wouldn't go.

Fortunately, I had just purchased the Honda Care Warranty and it was covered--they had to replace something on it.

I found my service order, and it said the "retaining clip" was broken--they replaced the retaining clip (it listes their unit price at 11 cents for that part

I was not charged for it--maybe it was covered under the honda care warranty, or maybe the dealer decided to do it for free since it was only out of warranty for a few days, and I also was taking it back in since the ball joint came out after they replaced my transmission--but they did charge my honda care warranty on the bill, and that's the only item that wasn't under the warranty from their recent repairs they had to re-do.
