2007 Odyssey Reversing Aid

Hi, I was motivated by Odyclub to buy a car reversing aid. I purchased the Ultron3 by Ditronic systems (800-942-5559) on ebay for $26!! Just finished installing it. Not too bad (1.5 hours), though I couldn't leave well enough alone and mistakenly cut one of the 4 sensor wires on one of the sensors while trimming a tie-wrap DOH! Took out the old soldering iron..presto like new.

Anyway to the install. I just removed the bottom hatch seat storage well panel (has two threaded decorative bolts) and loosed the right (passenger) rear panel (has a decorative nut).
Thanks to the guys that posted pictures! When I pulled the panel off, some of the fasteners stayed behind in the body holes. So,
I just pulled (very carefully) some of the fasteners out of the body holes and reinstalled them in the panel.

I spliced (with supplied splicing connector) the positive (red) wire on the ultron 3 control box to the green wire with the silver dashes on it. I then spliced the ultron black wire to a ground wire (connected by a screw to the body). I attached the sensors to the bottom of the bumper, ran the wires up through the 2 grommets (removed grommets, ran wires, re-installed grommets) on the bottom side of the 3rd row foldable seat storage area. I then ran the wires along the bottom hatch seat storage well panel area into the right panel area. I ran the speaker wire down through the hole on the right panel where you unscrew the decorative nut ( at the top of the panel). I then mounted the speaker near the decorative nut. I tie-wrapped everything pretty snug.

When I first turned it on (before installing the panels) it didn't seem to work. I then realized I hadn't pressed the 3 sensor connectors into the control box very tightly. When they are in far enough they snap. Anyway, bingo worked like a charm. It announces distance from 8, 5, 3, 2 feet, crash (since I mounted the sensors so far under the back bumper, there is about a 1 foot bias - e.g. it thinks you are 1 foot farther away than you actually are - bumper sticks out! The panels went back on fairly easily - watch out though for the weather stripping getting stuck underneath the panel edges. Put the panels on partially, then pull the weatherstripping out, then finish installing the panels.

Well we'll see how long the little wires under the car hold up to new england winters.. I think I'm going to buy some flex tubing to install over them....anyway good luck.

P.S. I can't find the ultron 3 anywhere online now. I did find this one though, which looks very similar...

It works pretty well - senses only a few large objects at 8 feet but sensors most everything at 5 feet (including small kids bikes). I had to move the sensors more toward the front edge of the bumper (I had originally put them deep under the bumper). I did run into a little problem with temperature dependency of the wire splicers that come with it..on hot days they gave a bad connection. I went back and solder the wires instead and everything works great. Not bad for $26 and 4 hours (total) labor

Update?

Is it still effective after a few months on the road?

Believe it or not.. I have had the Ultron for a while now and it still works great. The only trouble that I had was a bad power connection using the press on connectors. So instead, I soldered the connections. I highly recommend this as a reliable product - even through New England winters!
