California sales tax

I got this bid that I think I'm going to take on an EX-L, but the dealer is telling me that I have to pay the CA sales tax even though I'm taking the car to Colorado to register it....he says CA state law requires me to do so.

I don't have to pay the CO sales tax as long as I can prove that I paid tax on it in CA, but I think there's about a $500 difference. So is this true?? Do I have to pay the CA sales tax??

If you are buying from a dealer in Los Angeles County, the sales tax is 8.25%. However, if you live in different county of California, the sale tax will be vary according to where you live not where you buy. In addition to a few small fees, the vehicle is also subject to property tax (VLF). Currently, it is 0.67% of the value of the vehicle. Given the deficit problem of California, it is just a matter of time for VLF to go back to 2% value of the vehicle and sales tax to go up another 0.5%. So, for an Ody EX, we are talking about $450 to $500 increase in taxes.

I'm going to live in Colorado. I'm just buying the vehicle in California. So shouldn't I pay the sales tax when I register the vehicle?

This is the first time I have every heard that I pay the sales tax at point of sale on a vehicle since I'm going to register it elsewhere. And the dealer is telling me that I have 24 hours to get the car over the state line.

TIA

Well, I got my question answered.

Yes, I have to pay the sales tax IF I take delivery of the vehicle in California (CA state tax rate). If the vehicle is delivered to me over the state line, then I pay it when I register the vehicle.

I talked to the CA state taxing authority and those are the rules.............
