I am leaving for Florida from New York on Friday midnight. Can anyone tell me about how far I can go before filling up on highway? Naturally I will watch my gauge but I have no idea round about what I should get because I fill up every week end weather I need to or not. I am stopping for the night in Brunswick Ga. (854 miles)

Moved to the Road Trips forum.

We get almost 400 miles to the tank on the oddy when we are on a long trip but I rarely let it go below 1/4 on the freeway especially at nights.

Compared to NY, NJ and DE often have lot cheaper prices. Please note that the gas gauge is NOT linear. So, the first 1/4 of the tank has lot more gallons than the last 1/4 of the tank :-)

my gas light comes on when i have about 3 gallons left... i believe that is stated in my manual... and i have found that to be accurate.

i've only done it once but i have gotten over 400+ miles before filling up and still had about 2+ gallons left.

needless to say - the condition of your van, tire pressure, flow of traffic, the geographic terrain you will be driving will effect your MPGs.

how far will you go

I have gone over 500 miles but the conditions where ideal
1)no traffic
2)generally flat road
3)Spring time so no A/C was required
4)Cruise set at 100 KPH.

And since I have a scanguage i was able to determine excatly how much gas I had left.

I filled up with about 9 liters (2 gallons remaining)..
On my 2005 the low fuel light comes up with about 25 liters (5 gallons left). I had already covered 400 miles when the light came on and then went another 100 miles before stopping for gas..

Only did it once, I don't like running it that low but it gave me a good measure of exactly what the limits are when the low fuel light comes on...

i would never get away with this with the wife and kids in the van since I could never go that far without stopping for a rest room break....:-)

Someone I recall even went 600 miles....

Well I am home...here is how it went.
I left at 11:30 pm and arrived at Disney at 4:10 pm. Going down I was pushing 80 mph and above most of the way. I wound up driving all the way there only stopping for gas and to eat. I averaged 19.6 MPG going there.

Coming home I left at 12:30 pm and arrived home at 6:30 am. It took longer because it was raining hard most of the way so I was doing only 60-70 MPH at times. I averaged 21 MPG coming home. I'm tired as hell and I got work tomorrow.

I know this is an old thread but I'd like to share my experience with you all on our trip to Tn from NJ, earlier this year.
My average run was about 350-375 miles per tank, on the highway.
Average MPG was 25.2, with one tank exceeding 26MPG. I looked for the excel sheet I had in my phone its gone. Oh well...
In PA and NJ when my speed dropped (lower speed limits) my MPG went UP by about 1 MPG on average or so.
I kept the tire pressure @ 34 and this worked well (16" rims).

On every day use( 75% city - 25% hyw) I normally get about 525 km per tank, when we take a road trip i get about 700km per tank.

Typically I get around 300-350 miles around town, but that's not stop and go (around 24+ mpg). Highway I sometimes get 400 on a tank, but I'm also driving a '96 with 4 cylinders! I usually don't push it that far, I'll map out the best prices for gas along my route using Gasbuddy.com.
