Tips

I just finished installing this PIE aux input connector on my 05 Odyssey EX-L and I wanted to note a couple of things:

1. Make sure you disconnect and reconnect the battery after installing the PIE adapter - this is absolutely needed for the system to recognize the PIE adapter. I tried "hot" swapping/installing the PIE adapter without disconnecting the battery, and it would not recognize the adapter.
2. You *HAVE* to use the steering wheel radio control (MODE button) to toggle thru all the connections to get to the aux adapter (shows as CD4 in the center display)

Hi everyone.. Newbie question here.. by doing this install yourself are you affecting any part of the warranty? Secondly, I assume I can get this PIE AUX Adapter from any Honda dealer parts department, correct? Thanks in advance.

BTW - just picked up my '06 EX-L yesterday and I'm loving it!!

I am not sure about the warranty. If the installation caused any problems, the warranty would of course not cover it.

No, you can't get the PIE at a Honda dealer. It is an aftermarket part from another unrelated company. You can find an online source by doing a search of PIE input or aux input or something similar. It must be athe one that is explicitly compatible with the 05-06 Odyssey. I don't remember where I got it from but it was about $100.

Tips

I installed my PIE adaptor in my 2001 EX a couple weeks ago. I did not have to disconnect the battery. Once I pulled the head unit out far enough to get to the 14-pin plug, I just plugged it in, connected the XM and I was on my way.

I guess the 05 is different form the 01.

Unhappy Soundgate Auxillary Input Problem

I just installed my Soundgate SNHOND3. Unfortunately, the radio will not recognize that the Soundgate is there. When I press XM/AUX nothing happens...the radio continues to play whatever it was last set to, i.e. FM, AM, or CD.

When I installed I ensured that I did the following:

1) disconnected the negative lead from the battery
2) removed the 14-pin plug that was already there (the XM harness)
3) plugged the Soundgate cable into the 14-pin radio jack ensuring that the locking tab snapped into place
4) plugged the other end of the Soundgate cable into the Soundgate unit ensuring that the locking tab snapped into place
4) reconnected the battery
5) turned on the ignition (not the engine)
6) entered the radio code
7) connected and powered up my Creative Zen Touch
8) and nothing:=(

Any suggestions? Either there is something I have failed to do or the Soundgate is faulty on not signalling the radio.

Is Soundgate really a PIE adaptor with a tradename on it? I have not heard of Soundgate. Maybe you need to get online and contact Soundgate directly or at least read anything they might say about their particular unit.

Sounds like it might be a defective unit. Looks like you are going to have to spend some itme and get to the bottom of the problem.

If you bought the Soundgate locally, just take it back there and ask for a replacement. If a second unit fails, then you know there is something that is not compatible with your Ody head unit.

Kind of hard to tell until you have done some AB testing to isolate the location of the problem determine precisely where it is.

Keep us in the loop as you work thru this. It will be helpful to anyone else who might want to use a Soundgate adaptor.

Soundgate Harness Pin-out

Soundgate and Pie are two different companies that produce similar products. Both are available from Logjam. Folks here on this forum have used both. Logjam says that they're six of one and half a dozen of the other.

I did a continuity test of each wire in the harness that came with the Soundgate. The results are:

The left column is the 14-pin connector (Head Unit end) and the right column is the 10-pin connector (Soundgate end)

yellow------------------yellow
black--------------------black
green-------------------green
green strip------------- green stripe
red----------------------red
red strip----------------red stripe
white--------------------white
white strip--------------white stripe
blue---------------------thick black
thick black--------------nothing

There is a blue wire only at the 14-pin end that has continuity with the thick black wire at the 10-pin end. There is also a thick black wire at the 14-pin end that doesn't seem to have continuity with anything at the 10-pin end.

Should this be correct? Ok, the question might be rhetorical. I sent this information to Soundgate and also posted at the Logjam Forum. But, if someone out there in Odyclub land already knows, you might be the first with the answer!

Logjam and Soundgate are closed for the holidays and will re-open either tomorrow or Monday.

Thanks!

Celos, thank you for your detailed instructions. I installed the PIE adapter yesterday and with your instructions it went smoothly.

Other forum readers may be interested in the new Honda iPOD Music Link Adapter Kit which apparently will be available 1/3/06. See the collegehillshonda site:

http://www.collegehillshonda.com/od...electronics.htm

I decided to use the PIE adapater so I could use the AUX input for other devices in addition to the iPOD. The site does not indicate whether the new Honda kit will allow steering wheel control of the iPOD.

mgd1,

Have you tried to plug in another RCA device? Maybe it is not recognizing the Creative Zen or it's cable output?

Soundgate Auxillary Input Problem Update

I forgot to update this forum some time ago. The harness was bad. Logjam immediately sent a new unit. All is well. I ran the cable along the subwoofer cable which comes out under the passenger seat. I installed a flush mounted stereo mini jack under the center tray at the base of the passenger seat. It's not noticeable, but when you do see it, it looks stock. I just plug into the jack and place the Zen on the center tray or in the cupholder and all works fine.

I just performed this same install on my '06 EX-L per your instructions, panel mount jack also, and it works great! Thanks for the detailed instructions.

Are the steering wheel controls supposed to be able to change tracks on the iPod? If so then I must have done something wrong.

Don't know about the ipod, but the steering wheel controls will not change XM channels. I guess those controls are smart enough that they know that by using the adaptor, you haven't completely fooled them. The volume controls still work though.

Oh well, small price to pay to have a device running thru the electronics of the HU. Sure beats trying to run via a tape cartridge, doesn't it?

celos
Thanks for the great description on the install. I just installed mine for my Roady XT SAT radio. Unfortunately it does not have a power source unless I use the AUX power plug. Now I get that hiss sound you had mentioned. Do you think If I tap into a hot wire for power it will take care of the problem?
