Great holder for portable DVD players

I hope this is the right forum for this, but I recently bought this product called a DV-Grip made by a guy named Ed Spellman in Ohio. The quality of the holder seems to be very good. I was on vacation last week and we spent quite a bit of time in our 2004 EX-L using the holder and I could not be happier with it. It held our portable player securely and could be installed and/or removed in about 5 seconds unlike some of the other systems I have used. It holds the DVD player at the perfect height for anybody in either the second or third row to see it and it even allowed my son to use the remote control from his seat in the middle of row three. Here is a picture of one mounted in a gen 2 Odyssey:

The cost of the basic unit (the one without the IR headphones) is about $50 + S&H. This might sound a little steep compared to some of the carrying cases out there with strap systems to hold them in place, but having used both I can say that it is worth every penny.

The website to visit for more information is www.sackso.com and if you are interesting in buying one you just have to shoot them an e-mail and get an address to send a check. Unfortunately, I don't believe he is set up with Pay-Pal yet, but if you send him a check, he will ship one out to you the day the check arrives.

Thanks for the post, very interesting!
It looks to me like it might bounce up and down a little bit though during trips. Is it very rigid/stable?

That is a great idea. I already have RES in my Ody, but my CR-V needs something for the occasional snow trips. I have an 8" Mintek DVD player from Costco. I am wondering about a piece of wood with holes drilled into it at the ends to fit the inner front headrests poles. The seats would be at the same position all the time, so it might work for us. Of course I would need to fabricate some type of hold down strap so it would not release the player if there was a crash. I am not sure if it would work or not but it has me intrigued...The price would definetely be right if I could build it to be safe.

Why deal with that thing, and not get an overhead monitor installed? That thing is hideous, and would just annoy the heck out of me. Plus it looks like a pretty good projectile in the even or an accident.

I don't have an overhead, i have 9.2" headrest screens in mine, but still i would never consider that to be an option.

I had that in the back of my mind to fabricate for my Altima for the kids......I was too concerned with decapitation and flying objects..So I put it on the back burner.....Mine would have attached the same way....Someone will be a millionair

Hi TrungLam,

Mine just arrived yesterday. Can't wait to install it. How is your experience with the unit?

Thanks,

I was sitting in the back seat of the Pilot with the DVD player and the borrowed case trying to think of a way to make it work. I just happened to look up at my workbench in the garage and saw the Kwik Twists hanging there. The idea popped in my head that I could use the twists to strap the player to the seat (Fig.1)!
