Dead Pedal
Installation

Following Hy's example, I finally
ordered and installed a 1986 Accord dead pedal (part # 46990-SEO-GOO). I used 2" sheet
metal screws to mount the pedal. Originally, I wanted to use nuts and bolts or
nutserts and that's still an option if I ever have to remove the pedal for any
reason. By that time, the carpet will be well-compressed and I'll have a lot
less trouble getting things lined up. I could just do it now, but everything
worked out so well that there's no point messing with it if I don't have to.
Wow! A real dead pedal at last.

It took a little bending of the
pedal's frame to make it sit right on the Ody floor, but it wasn't too
difficult.

I started out trying to use
1" screws, but because the carpet is so thick and irregular in that
area, I had a little trouble. I finally gave up and went with 2" and
will just cut them off in the wheelwell and re-coat the area with spray
undercoationg. |

This is the area in the
wheelwell where the screws come through. The long screws made it a lot
easier to get them started through the carpet. |

Now to get the trusty Dremel...... |
 |
....and cut those suckers down
to size! |
 |
This does a good job of
protecting the screws from the elements.. |
 |
A few squirts and they're all
sealed up. |

Finally! A real dead pedal and
It looks like original equipment. It feels right and it keeps the carpet
clean. PS: Watch out when making the hole for the upper right leg. The
parking brake cable runs in that area. |
