    Waiting on the road ...

No road trip ever completed without construction delays. My favorite so far was this one stopped at the BC/Alberta border on the TransCanada, July 2012, with our old 07 EXL.

I drive to Alberta at least once a year and the scenery never ceases to amaze me. Natural beauty at its finest. Hwy 16 has been pretty construction zone free the past couple of years with the completion of the pipeline, but they're rebuilding a lot of bridges on Hwy 1 and widening the highway.

Still love how this is the main highway between Vancouver and Calgary. But it's a blast driving my Mazda 3 through all the curves in the summer. I'll actually be pretty sad as they straighten the highway out. Good thing it's a 10 to 20 year multi-billion dollar project.

I spent two summer months mid-college (1979) with friends along the Columbia from Golden to Fernie and many trips across Yoho, Banff, Jasper, and soaks at Radium. It remains a favorite place (along with Victoria). I was astonished driving the 1 at how much it had transformed into a highway, but appreciated the relatively sensitive environmental engineering fitting it in one of the most amazing mountain ranges in the world. Frankly, it shows what happens when a country can get more of it's infrastructure and social priorities straight, something we seem to have lost completely south of the 49. I'm looking forward to pointing the new Ody northward!
