idle jumps 1k to 2k rpm constant

I just had my tranny rebuilt at a tranny shop(ruffner transmission, san diego) and when i got my van back, the idle continued to jump up and down from 1k rpm to 2k rpm. The mechanic thinks it isnt related to the work he did but it sure wasnt like that when i took it to him. they tranny was slipping when i brought it to him, thats all. oh yeah he said he had to replace all engine mounts cause they were broken. code read map circuit low voltage, i think it was p0108... not sure tho. have to check again. any ideas guys. should the mechanic be liable? im running on 198k miles.

Search for the threads on the broken wire on the power steering switch and take it to him and have him check the wire. Also look at the threads on the IAC valve which also may be a problem.

Ignore. Old eyes didn't catch the map senser code. Although I would check the wires on the switch anyway.

i watched him unplug the map and all connections to the throttle while the engine was on and then plug it all back in (engine still on) and there was no change to the jumping idle. the mechanic said that he didnt mess with anything on the top side of the engine. i'll have him recheck all connnections on the bottom side where the power steering is.

I spoke to the trans tech and he said that it is the MAP sensor causing the jumping idle. could this be true or should i take it across the street to the pacific honda dealer?

I'd have it checked by dealer. There is a troubleshooting process for that code. Could be a loose terminal, poor connection, faulty MAP sensor or an open in the wires between the MAP and PCM.

Don't want to replace the MAP if you don't need to.

You can see the map senser voltage the PCM can see with an OBDII scanner. That can be compared to the voltage measured at the MAP senser.
