timing belt replacement for 2009 honda odyssey

i jpreviously had a 2004 honda odyssey that recommended that the timing belt be changed at 100,000 miles.

my 2009 honda odyssey recommends that the belt be changed at 60,000 miles.

    why the drastic change?

60K for colder climates and 100K for Sacramento.

I do 100K even here in Canada and I'm fine.

Yep, 60K for severe service or 100K for normal service.

These factory guidelines are very conservative. They are low so to let Honda off the hook if a TB fails before then (almost 0% probability except in case of related component failure), and they also generate more TB business for Honda dealers.

That's what I meant. Ouch, not good if belt breaks.

Yup it will surely destroy the valve and pistons once the belt snaps.

I replaced mine at around 110k and I can say that the belt has no signs of cracks or damage. But I agree that 60k is recommended for those who live in area with extreme weather conditions.

I'm in agreement. Regarding both of my Ody TB changes, all components were in good order. I just changed a TB on a 1994 Accord (non-VTEC) I-4 that had almost 300,000 miles on the original timing belt. It was a little stretched, and that belt did have numerous small surface cracks, but after removal, all of the teeth looked well-defined. Even the tensioner pulleys and water pump were in good order, which amazes me.

Just out of curiosity, Is the tensioner a manual tensioner or one of the hydraulic tensioners ?
If it is manual , why do people feel the need to replace it?
if it's hydraulic it sounds like its time for a industrious Ody member to make a manual one for you all.
As far as the bearing goes if it rolls smooth with no clicks, chunks, or drag why replace a known good one with one that may be bad right out of the package?
Yes parts are all to often D.O.A. and it seems to becoming more common.
