We owned an excellent 2004 Ody, and thinking the 2018 would be essentially the same vehicle but newer, we purchased an ‘18 EXL-RES last May. Although it is true that in some important ways, such as improved handling, ride, safety features and others, the new model is an improvement, many changes in the interior design seem to be inferior.
--The front seats are narrower, less padded and thus less comfortable than those on the ‘04.
--The loss of many front area compartments for carrying or holding objects. Why no large pull-out under the passenger seat?
--Inside-the-door shelves that are spaced so that it is very difficult to reach the bottom one. The middle one gets in the way.
--The driver’s side seat belt is more difficult to reach.
--The display for the parking “BRAKE” is difficult to see, being at the bottom of the dash display. Why not place it at the top of the display? There is plenty of room there.
--The window sills are now shelf-shaped instead of tapered, making it more difficult to reach out of windows, especially the driver’s side window.
--With the third row seats down, the floor in the cargo area is not flat.
--The side pockets in the rear cargo area are not large enough to store the headrests when they are removed from the third row seats in order to stow the seats.
I realize some of these are subjective and might be considered nit-picking.
Are there any interior designs YOU consider to be “fails”?
