    2018-2019 Earth Dreams Engine problem

Our new 2019 Ody EX has an Earth Dreams engine. I suspect that the 2018's also have the same engine.

Well here's a video by Scotty Kilmer that explains why the oil in an Earth Dreams engine needs to be changed every 5,000 miles (not 10,000 miles). He says the Earth Dreams engines are having a problem with oil dilution caused by the very high pressure GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) system blowing gasoline past the piston rings.

Here's the link to the video:

I don't think the new GDI J series have oil dilution problem. The 1.5 turbo 4 cylinders in the accords and CRVs do.

Thanks MrRanger. After watching the video I looked to see what I might find about this issue and if it effects Odyssey's. Here is what I found.

"Excess fuel vapors in Honda’s 1.5-liter engine aren’t burning off and diluting the engine’s oil. This raises the oil level, triggers warning lights, creates a terrible smell, and brings into question the prospect of long-term damage caused by the oil’s inability to properly protect the engine.

Oil dilution is known problem for the 2017-2018 CR-V and 2016-2018 Civic and is particularly troublesome in cold-weather areas. There is a fix coming, but your eligibility largely depends on where you live,"

    Seeming a "non-issue" on the 3.5, V-6.
