Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board, looks like a great source of info.

My mom's Odyssey has the common EGR valve code come up on the Check engine light.

Unfortunately, she has 85,000 miles on it, so she is beyond the extended coverage range.

So, I'm goin to try cleaning the intake manifold and the EGR valve tube in hopes of fixing the problem. My Miata has had a similiar problem and I've done the cleaning of it's intake manifold not too long ago.

Has anyone here done it for themselves yet? Any tips, things I should be aware of when removing/installing/cleaning the intake manifold, throtle body, etc.

Does anyone have the torque specs for replacing the manifold and other critical bolts in this process?

Thanks for any help!

Eric

both upper and lower intake manifolds bolt torque spec is 16lb.ft.
but why you need to remove the intake manifold when you need to fix the EGR valve? the EGR is loacted at the thermostate housing.
whatever you do, good luck.

There is a Service Bulletin concerning the EGR valve and the port getting 'gunked up". It goes further than a simple cleaning of the port -- it describes a "fix" involving drilling the port out and incerting a sleave. I have seen the bulletin, and it gives the codes which pertain to/suggest the problem, details of the fix (including a description of a special kit), which seals can be re-used and which should be replaced and, of course, all the torque values. If you are just going to clean it, then at least you could get all the torques, etc. and see what Honda is saying about the fix...

I have a hard copy of the bulletin somewhere (I can't seem to locate it right now), but my guess is that if you do a search you might be able to locate a pdf version. Perhaps there has been earlier discussion of this issue.

If you have not already done so, you might want to contact Honda to see if they will do a "good will" fix of the problem (assuming it is what is described in the bulletin) -- having the bulletin in hand might be useful in that it indicates that this is a known problem (at least for some years -- again, I cannot locate the bulletin right now to check...)

Sorry I can't locate the bulletin and be of more help.
