Help! Oil Leak From Torque Converter Cover Plate -- TSB 01-009??

I was changing the oil today and noticed oil leaking from the rear edge of the Torque Converter Cover Plate. See page 14-377 of Helm Manual. It is like a mist that is blown backward on the under side of the transmission. I have cleaned this off once before, and it has come back again.

I removed the two bolts that hold the cover plate, but could not remove the plate without bending it, so I left it alone for now. I am not loosing any Transmission or engine oil when I check the dipsticks.

The logical place for the leak is either the rear main seal of either the transmission or the engine. But TSB 01-009 outlines the nightmares of porous castings.

Am I doomed to the JB Weld Fix outlined in TSB 01-09? Replacement Transmission? I am still under warranty at 26,000 miles.

I will appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Thanks.

Man, I don't know what the problem is. Maybe others can help.

I found the same leaking problem in mine when I changed the engine oil first time. I think I will make an appointment to check it out.

Canus, please keep me posted, and I will do the same. I believe, but am not sure, that the porosity problems were fixed by the time of the 2003 models.

I don't want to be driving on JB Weld.

The JB wled fix is and was intended for aonly some areas where a porosity problems occur. The JB weld goes in some areas of the engine block. JB weld should not be used and is not approved for use on tranmission leaks. If the trans is leaking and is not a seal, or loose connectionsn, then the tranny must be replaced.

Honda is still working on resolving some porosity issues. Most issues were resolved mid 2003 model year production.

My suggestion, take to dealer. If under warranty - Honda pays. If out of warranty call CR or have the dealer call their District Service Manager for goodwill.

OK, thanks. It looks/feels more like transmission fluid, which is less viscous than motor oil.
