Help! On my 2007 EX-L the A/C cuts out intermittently but works perfectly most of the time. When it cuts out the front blower stops working and the low pressure line gets ice buildup. I have run the diagnostic module with no codes, but can't seem to replicate the problem when I need to. The compressor has been cycling on/off every 5-10 seconds lately, although that doesn't seem to affect things. Seems to be more prominent in hotter weather. Any suggestions?

First of all welcome to the forum. Just to confirm. You are saying that the a/c stops working when the blower motor quits blowing air? If so, you must have a blower motor resistor problem. Not an a/c problem. Try this when the blower quits switch it to the max speed setting. If the fan continues to run you have narrowed down the problem. Its the blower motor resistor. If you have confirmed it. I can post a link to where is the resistor. Do you have an automatic a/c? The a/c clutch cycles to prevent damage to the system. As if not, it will freeze up the evaporator this will damage the compressor. I hope this helps. Let me know. Have you replaced the cabin filter?

The front blower just turns off. When it quits I try altering the fan speed from the lowest setting all the way to high, and it doesn't change anything. When it is working, which is most of the time, the system works beautifully. Cold air with plenty of air flow. The cabin filter was changed about 6 months ago. I don't see anything on the AC lines that would indicate a leak. Otherwise how would it work so well when it does work? Is it possible it is getting a little low on R134, enough that during hotter temps and higher load, it is having trouble keeping up and the safety features are getting triggered to prevent damage?

I do not think that you are getting low on refrigerant. As you mentioned that its cold when its working. I would suggest to check the main power feed going to the front blower motor for looseness or corrosion. Was anything done before this happened? We have 1 member here has the same symptoms as you are having. I told him to check the main connector to the blower motor, surely enough it was a loose connector. Plus if the connector is loose the contacts might heat up. Let me know.

Try this while the fan is on max speed or close to max speed wiggle the wire in the connector while connected, see if you see any arc or looseness. If you do not see anything you might have a bad resistor or blower motor that is going bad. While you have the a/c operational & the motor stops blowing air hit the motor with a hammer just enough to make it restart again see if this will make the motor run again. If so, you found your culprit. Let me know.

If the blower motor quits working the evaporator & low pressure line will freeze. To prevent damage the compressor will stop or will cycle. If the blower suddenly quits turn off the a/c but leave the blower motor to the on position. It should not harm the a/c system as long as the blower motor is corrected early.
